Is this game scary?

I know that is a stupid question, but I hate horror games. While playing through the first part of the game I hear noises, and get a little scared. I would like to know the scary parts (if any).

Headcrabs jumping at you in vents is NO fun. O.o

If you want a real horror experience I'd recommend the Black Mesa mod. Its a complete recreation of Half-Life but the atmosphere is 10x more intense than the original, and most of the areas that you remember from the original have been heavily modified. The enemies that you will encounter like the Zombie, Bullsquid, Houndeye, and my favorite the Gargantuan have had a complete visual overhaul, they may be scary to some, but holy crap are they awesome looking!

Short Story: Go download Black Mesa in my opinion its superior to the original in most cases and really captures the atmosphere!

Really, it sounds to me like HL Source if it didn't suck.

Do you expect more from a game made in 1998? For Valve's first game it's impressive. Look at every other game made in 1998 and compare that to Half-Life. It's either better or about the same to all those other games.

I don't know about you, but HL Source won't even work for me. Couldn't even get to the incident because Barney WOULDN'T STOP WALKING INTO THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WALL.

They can't sell the Black Mesa mod since it is illigal to anyway, and yes the game is incomplete (no Xen YET!) but the devs did say that they were going to finish Xen 'soon'. Still though Black Mesa is better in most aspects in my opinion.

What are you talking about? Valve gave them permission to monetize Black Mesa.

It's a shame but I actually agree with Stillnyte. Black Mesa had that awesome music to begin with, those awesome enviroments, everything was awesome. That depot with many many tripmines where you found the Hornet Gun was waaay harder than in the original game. The animation when you first found the Hornet Gun was just genius work. I really can't wait for the Xen levels. Unless they have some plans like Valve does of not releasing Half-Life 3.
