So what did you think about Half-Life: Uplink?
I thought it was a fun little return to action that reminded me of the good times I've had with half-life. This will definitely tide me over until HL3 in 2044

Uplink was my first experience playing Half-Life back in 1999.

I just played it for the first time. Yes, i never was able to run that thing back then (never ran properly). Its a fine demo, shame they never include it on the final game, its pretty much the Lost coast from HL2.

Also theres some animations that i never saw in the final release, like hecu soldiers being dragged to death and crap. Pretty cool stuff considering its from 1997.

I first played it sometime in 1999, it was included on the demo disc in an issue of PC Gamer magazine. I could never put into words the impact it had on me (I was 10 years old). I must have ended up playing through Uplink at least 30+ times before getting the full game. I still think it's the best single player showcase demo ever released, very representative of the full game.

Back in the day I played Uplink before the main game, so this was the perfect blast from the past for me.

I hadn't realized it was available to the public back in the day. I read some article that said it was for the media and critics or something. Anyway, definitely a cool thing to include in the update!

I loved it, but also felt it was a huge bait n switch, since we never got content on that level for the main game or any continuation via expansion pack. For people that don't know, this was released first afaik, for free, as a demo. Uplink had way more interactivity with the environment than the official game. This is also very similar to the E3 leak of Doom3 compared to the official release, which was a downgrade.
For those interested, there's a mod called "uplinked" which extends the "forget about freeman" chapter and connects to a recreated version of uplink. The mod also have an option to play just the new content.

PS: You probably need to revert back to the legacy build if you wanna play without problems

i dont remember playing uplink at all, i think my first play was hl1 or opfor, and i only remember first maps of tramride/plane crash, after that it looks very bloory, as a demo i think its nice that games in the past had them, i used to play a lot of demos and it was cool to the point most demos were almost entire game experience, but we dont really get that much demos anymore for same reason, i think devs make way too much importance on amount of content vs actual quality or simply good dev tools for mod makers, i would imagine if valve realsed uplink and than followed up with release of hammer or something like snapmap from doom we would get a whole game release soon enough just based on the demo assets, most mods today really fail because most tools devs release are cut down beta versions of the actual tools they use since mod makers make really competitive content for free, and most of what i think devs should provide is platform to make mods ie workshop and a level editor and some other tools like model and sound imports that could be easily learned, even hammer is quite hard compared to something like minecraft ingame level editing, i mean up to a certain point polish really makes no difference ie a few textures missing is some mod map makes no difference so long its playable and i imagine if you release some fan made campaign ahead of game realease it would be just as popular as the main game, most game releases are boring in that way most game releases are mostly a story with no end, its not about the game but telling the story and so its boring to play vs demo where most of the time its not about story but an experience they player has ie like movie trailer.

I wish it was at least 3 times as long. I love Uplink's atmosphere and how comfy it feels.

it's kinda weird playing somethign like uplink knowing it's essentially a demo version of some of the major chapters, it's almost like a "bite-size" half life midsection, some of the more scenimatic ♥♥♥♥ was still surprisingly cool for stuff that didn't go really used, It's definately weirder seeing itafter basically going from HL2 to 1 (and then ep1-2 and still not Alyx cuz no VR :ftired:)
