Half-Life

Lazy remaster
After remasters of Quake 1 and, especially, Quake 2 - Half-Life looks so poor.
There is no actual controller support - just controller config that emulates mouse and keyboard.
There is no weapon wheel - just stupid weapon scrolling, not choosing exact weapon.
There is no addons added just weird demo.
No graphical options like motion blur and deph of field.

I think Valve just forget that they made Half-Life and remembered this about week before today, because i don't understand why it is so poorly made.

What remaster? It was simply an update, it promised none of that stuff

Remaster might come out one the 19th idk, but I can only hope

HL1 wasnt a console game
in 1998 no one used game controllers to play an FPS.

Even in 2023, using a game pad in an FPS is basically an episode of, how to get your arse beat silly by a mediocre kid with a mouse.

But this is not a remake, the change log is very clear and detailed, nothing was lied about.

You dont have to scroll through weapons you know?
You can use hotkeys, i dont think too many people scroll?

I loaded up the hazard course and some old saves and the game played just fine on controller. Other than pressing Y to reload it what fairly intuitive coming from my experience of Half Life 2 on the 360 being my introduction to the franchise. Half Life 2 didn't have a weapon wheel either and with the amount of weapons along with the more tactical nature of the gameplay in these games compared to something like Doom for example I don't really see how it would be worth the effort. Especially considering how the update is completely free, doesn't claim to be a remaster, and they even straight up are giving away the game for free as well.

The update did exactly what it said it would do. It added some multiplayer maps, expanded mod support, fixed some longstanding technical issues on modern devices, made some adjustments so it would be more faithful to the original release, and added proper controller support so it can be enjoyed on steam deck or by people who simply don't want to use mouse and keyboard. I see no issues with this.

1. Even using hotkeys you can't choose exact weapon. Don't believe me? Try to pick Colt Python in one button press.
2. About controllers. I played Quake 1 and 2 remastered, those games plays flawlessly with a controller. Those games older than Half-Life.

I already said - this is not controller support, just emulations of k&m, steam has this feature for all games.
Half-Life 2 finally was updated with Steam Deck release. All this time controller support was broken as hell. Now it has actual steam controller api support, remapable buttons with correct prompts. Yes, there is no weapon wheel and this is bad.

I am not sure how but you are.
This is not a remaster.

As for weapon picking, i know it make be a lost art, but learn to write HL aliases and macros

So quake somehow was remaded for the controller or what? My post was about how good old shooters plays with controller.

Do not want to do developers job for them.

Nightdive uses their own egnine for updating games. The controller support isn't in the original engine

But everything Valve has said in regards to this is that it's an "update", not a "remaster"
Edit: Just tried using a controller. Movement is analog. You only get two speeds with keyboard. This clearly isn't just emulating key presses

Valve have all source code, they can add this if was not so lazy. They made this for Half-Life 2 after Episode 2 release, it was broken, but implemented. And year ago they added SCapi support and you can even use gyro of nintendo procontroller in game.

Please tell me what part of REMAKE and NOT REMAKE you are failing to grasp?
I will be happy to try and explain it to you.

This is not a Remake nor is this iD Software
Not a REMAKE
Game was NOT REMADE

FWIW, for giggles i just tried to ply it with a WiiMote an Nunchuck
Sort of odd, i am sure it was never intended but, it works.
And it is Analog, it isn't keyboard emulating and it isn't mouse emulating, it is analog controller support.

I can't play worth a crap with a WiiMote, but it does work.
Unfortunately, flinging the WiiMote does not result in me throwing the crowbar.
Disappointing....

Do not want to do developers job for them.
Isn't their job, they gave the ability to do custom stuff, that part was their job, in 1998 we didn't need hand held and spoon fed.

I'm not even mad about this being a poor remaster, but this update has bugs, you can't play expansions and HUD size is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ now.

Anyway remember this update is completely free and you can downgrade the game to "steam_legacy" version.
