in 1998 no one used game controllers to play an FPS.
Even in 2023, using a game pad in an FPS is basically an episode of, how to get your arse beat silly by a mediocre kid with a mouse.
But this is not a remake, the change log is very clear and detailed, nothing was lied about.
You dont have to scroll through weapons you know?
You can use hotkeys, i dont think too many people scroll?
The update did exactly what it said it would do. It added some multiplayer maps, expanded mod support, fixed some longstanding technical issues on modern devices, made some adjustments so it would be more faithful to the original release, and added proper controller support so it can be enjoyed on steam deck or by people who simply don't want to use mouse and keyboard. I see no issues with this.
2. About controllers. I played Quake 1 and 2 remastered, those games plays flawlessly with a controller. Those games older than Half-Life.
Half-Life 2 finally was updated with Steam Deck release. All this time controller support was broken as hell. Now it has actual steam controller api support, remapable buttons with correct prompts. Yes, there is no weapon wheel and this is bad.
REMASTERED
Something this is not, but somehow you fail to grasp that at all?
I am not sure how but you are.
This is not a remaster.
As for weapon picking, i know it make be a lost art, but learn to write HL aliases and macros
you can still find how on websites
Do not want to do developers job for them.
But everything Valve has said in regards to this is that it's an "update", not a "remaster"
Edit: Just tried using a controller. Movement is analog. You only get two speeds with keyboard. This clearly isn't just emulating key presses
What month? December?
I will be happy to try and explain it to you.
This is not a Remake nor is this iD Software
Not a REMAKE
Game was NOT REMADE
FWIW, for giggles i just tried to ply it with a WiiMote an Nunchuck
Sort of odd, i am sure it was never intended but, it works.
And it is Analog, it isn't keyboard emulating and it isn't mouse emulating, it is analog controller support.
I can't play worth a crap with a WiiMote, but it does work.
Unfortunately, flinging the WiiMote does not result in me throwing the crowbar.
Disappointing....
Isn't their job, they gave the ability to do custom stuff, that part was their job, in 1998 we didn't need hand held and spoon fed.
Anyway remember this update is completely free and you can downgrade the game to "steam_legacy" version.
I can play some of them
blueshift i have to roll back to steampipe beta, takes 8 seconds
tfc richocete and opfor worked fine though from what i could tell on the update version
