Where's Dr. Breen?
In HL2, they say that Breen was the administrator of Black Mesa, but where the heck is he in Half Life 1? Did he left before the resonance cascade?

Typical HL2 retcon, there's no Breen in the original game.

The scientists mention an "Administrator" but they never say his name.

The administrator is supposed to be G-Man. Notice the Black Mesa logo on his briefcase that's conveniently missing in HL2.

Originally meant to be the G-Man in HL1, later retconned into a different character for HL2

Why did they change his role? Assuming that Gman didn't modify the timeline and put Wallace in his role with his powers for some reason

Because Valve never knew where the story was going to go. Even to this day they are making things up as they go.

Ok, I came up with two possible explanations for this retcon:
1) Maybe G-Man modified the timeline to make it that Wallace Breen was the Black Mesa admin for unknown reasons
2) Maybe Breen was the OLD administrator before G-Man

Pretty sure all we've seen ingame is nothing else than a G-Man's illusion to "train" us for... unforeseen consequences.

Half-Life 1 had no unique human characters except for Gman and Gina (if you exclude the 3 player characters). It's only in Half-Life 2 where they decided to focus more on a story narrative and gave us actual characters as a result.

The reason they retcon was because they wanted an ex-administrator of Black Mesa that is not the g-man to be the main enemy.

I noticed something. The names Gordon, G-Man, and Gina all start with the letter "G". Is that a coincidence? I don't think so.

Don't forget Gonarch, the name of the big mommy headcrab character.

Gman was supposed to be some kind of goverment agent. We do not see Breen but BM was a large complex
