Uplink in the main campaign?

So one thing I noticed after replaying the game with the anniversary update is that Uplink was integrated into the main campaign between Lambda Core and Xen.
However, after watching several recent YouTube walktroughs where that doesn't happen, I want to ask: WTF is going on? Is my HL1 installation cursed or why am I not seeing other people getting to the Uplink chapter by playing through the game normally vs selecting it as a New Game launch option?

Your HL1 installation is cursed because you probably installed Uplink Addon some time ago (which integrates Uplink into Lambda Core by a portal). It's probably in your "valve_addon" folder. If not, then you should verify the integrity of game files. Or better, delete the "Half-Life" folder and install the game from scratch.

Verifying the game files did not do the trick, I'm going to try a fresh install.

Okay, so after completely reinstalling the game and loading a fresh save (old one would still drop me into Uplink, SOMEHOW) everything is back to normal.

Some stuff (like the edited level transition) remains on the save file.

But it does make sense, though. The event in Uplink is similar to when Gordon reached Lambda Core in the original game.
