Also look in your computer's sound mixer that mp3 volume is turned up.
bgmvolume "1"
bgmvolume "1" // basically turns on and off the mp3 sounds.: 1 is on 0 is off
When disabled, it pauses the current sound which is being played with "mp3" or "cd" command. To unpause, just reenable.
Steam settings / voice / click box " detect audio devices".
Have you looked on the cd in the valve media folder for the mp3 files?
With the disk in the cd drive the music should play.

however the steam versone plays music form the dir were thw won vershon playes it thow the cd its self you shold buy the steam vershon thay are the same just with miner bug fixes and muiltyplayer being playabel
