yea, exactly. hl2 story is a direct improvement
They are different kinds of story telling. HL2 has a bunch of environment storytelling as well but HL1 is mostly environment story telling. If you want to get the full story then listen to ambient dialogue, radios, announcements. There's a ton of story from HL1.
There was Quake, Half-Life is just an improved iteration of that, so yea, there was and fps like this one.
