Half-Life

Half-Life

So, the storage page of Half-Life now is not very correct?
Because in the compatibility list there is "Windows XP" and I've tried to run Half-Life 25 anniversary on my Windows XP x64 SP2 machine and it gives error, that says that hl.exe is not a valid win32 app

You know you can switch version to pre-25th anniversary in Beta menu?

Yes it's weird, but other than sending a ticket to steam support and informing them, there is nothing we can do I guess.

ALSO, Steam is not supported on Windows XP if I remember correctly.
How did you managed to install steam to begin with ?

No he isn't.
The OP talking about the current updated Half-Life 1.
Store Page says it supports Windows XP and didn't mention anything about rolling back to Legacy version just because of your operation system.

If thats the point it should be mentioned on the Store page.

I've got the same problem, try and open it and it just says it's "not a vaild Win32 application". I've tried re-installing it and all that, but I'm running 32-bit Windows XP, exactly what the requirements say, and yet it just won't open. I tried contacting support but they were no use, and basically just said "we can't help you, ask someone else" when it's literally their game and I can't get it anywhere else (apart from physical on ebay and the super secret other way). I would like to try this game at some point and I've got no chances otherwise, so if anyone has any advice please say. Is it something to do with the .net framework?

Maybe One Core Api can solve this problem, but it installation caused some problems to my PC, asked dev about this, well I'll try to install beta version

the reason for the "not a valid Win32 application" is actually due to the
MajorOperatingSystemVersion
MajorSubsystemVersion
parts of the EXE being set above winXP, if you open the HL.exe with a PE editor and change these values to 4 it will let it run, you will then get other errors since XP doesn't have the API DLL's, for that you would need them from One Core but if you don't wish to install OneCore you could download just the API DLL's from their github and place them in the games directory, hopefully that helps.
