Hunk_Alloc failed on 296 bytes!!??

Every time I either start or join a MP game I get booted out of the game with this error message. Single player works fine. Any help would be appreciated.

I right clicked on Half-Life in Steam, chose options, and in Launch options I added this:
-heapsize 500000

then it works, though I also first run deathmatch map in software mode, then set to opengl, which restarts half-life, but that probably wasn't it

Thanks for the suggestion but it appears to still do it for me after I add the paramter.

a month late, just now noticed notification, try double or triple the value, for some people needs higher value, obviously this is a bug, but it has been noted many times literally you can say decades ago for certain maps or scenarios
