FIX FOR BLACK SCREEN (?)

I found running the game in windowed mode completely negates the black screen issue (for me) that happens after the valve guy intro. The game runs but the screen is perpetual black. I cheesed this buy hitting alt+tab (which shows a preview of the game running WITHOUT the black screen, weirdly) repeatedly so I could see where my cursor was placed on the HL menu screen. I just did this until I was able to select "Windowed Mode" and Apply and.. BOOM- everything was normal and working perfectly.
I experimented and closed the game immediately, relaunched it, and I had no black screen.
I then deselected Windowed Mode (enabling fullscreen), closed the game, relaunched, and the dreaded black screen was back. So its safe to say, for me, and hopefully the rest of those encountering the black screen after the valve guy intro, that running the game in a window is the fix, for now.

go to properties and type "-windowed" and relaunc the game.
