In HL2 it shows the alien/combine presence has greatly changed the world. I think that's enough of a clue to what the gman was trying to accomplish in 1, using you and the science team to open a portal for Xen for......whatever reason...to spell it out obvious would ruin the magic and mystery. It's better left open IMO
B) Gordon Freeman from the future
C) The illuminati or the FBI/CIA's representent
D) Gaben's great great grandson to tell he'll make Half Life 3
E) All of the above.
Idk
From watching the 25 Anniversary Docu on Youtube I learned that Gabe wanted the "Cigarette smoking man" from X-Files in the game.
To be honest. If Valve ever 100% reveals what he is then I think we are at the final Half-Life game ever, or at least at the final Canon main storyline game, spinoffs are always possible.
His purpose is to make players speculate and to make it easier for the Devs to change up things if needed. The moment they demystify him, his story will be less interesting.
Off course, that's just his placeholder name, and valve can easily change his origins and make him an alien or some conquering officer from another galaxy. For some reason, Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star wars Rebels reminds me of him.
I need to rewatch the Xfiles since it is so much in the mood of the era.
But wasn't there a similar character in the Twin Peaks and Farscape (and even Star Trek)?
I hope Valve won't reveal everything because it may just ruin the character.
That'd be very subversive if the Gman ends up still being a mere human (although it's unlikely because of HL² and the Episodes + Alyx).
