Half-Life

Half-Life

How come HECU were never mentioned after Half Life 1?
They were the main threat up until Lambda Core and it feels weird that neither Barney/Kleiner/Eli never mentioned them in Half Life 2.

As a side note, we know not all of them died at Black Mesa because some managed to evacuate. So what happened after that? Since some people here are going to be butthurt if events of Opposing Force are taken into consideration so i will split this into two parts:

Opposing Force is not canon: they evacuated Black Mesa and presumably went back to their military base. Then what? Did they inform the world or their families what happened at Black Mesa?

Opposing Force is canon: They evacuated Black Mesa and presumably returned to Santego Military Base. Some say they were executed by Black Ops, some say nuke got them, some say nothing happened. But none of this is confirmed. So then what?

I think it's because it takes place 20 years after half-life 1 and they aren't relevant to the situation

They also could have been complete casualties of the Seven Hour War. As such, they would no longer exist as a unit.

The world is doom. They got other things to worry about than looking at photo albums of people trying to kill them 20 years ago.

This ENTIRE part isn't even needed because Valve themselves literally doesn't consider Opposing Force to be canon to the overall universe, meaning there never was a nuke, there never was a Shepard, there never was a Race X, etc.

Must never had heard for phrase "Actions speak louder than words"
Their ACTIONS speak for themselves lad, zero mention of Shepard, zero mention of anything regarding Race X, nothing but silence, we're lucky that the only character to have come out of Gearbox's expansions of the original Half Life to be part of the official canon was Barney Calhoun since that's who you play as in Blue Shift and you even see him at the beginning of the original Half Life.

Adrian wasn't mentioned because he is in stasis and no one besides gman knows about his existence. He never met any of the protagonists or side characters

There was no need for Race X to stick around after Adrian killed the Gene Worm. That plus their heavy loses, they basically retreated because they failed to capture Earth. And if some did managed to stay on Earth they were killed by the Combine.
The whole point of Race X is to show you that XEN aliens are not the only alien race in the universe. Race X served their role for that and considering how their goal failed, there is no need for them to return

So yeah, THOSE actions speak louder than words, because half life is about "don't tell but show"

The term hecu was introduced in opposing force, and the writer himself didn't consider anything from gearbox when making Half-life 2, so he wouldn't made any mention of "hecu" in his games. The only thing in Half-life 2 that came from gearbox is Barney's last name, which is never even mentioned during the gameplay.

It's not important what happened to HECU after Half-Life, whether you consider Gearbox canon or not. HECU was a part of US army, and that army, as any other, was destroyed by the Combine during the Seven Hour War.

As for the soldiers that did manage to evacuate from Black Mesa - we don't know. Government wouldn't want information about the Incident disclosed. So those soldiers might have been executed. They might have been sedated into forgetting all of what happened. Or they might have just returned to the base with strict orders not to disclose anything that they might know.

There is no reason to. The Combine is the current problem.

They got disbanded basically.
