Stolen soundtrack
this game's soundtrack is apparently stolen and isnt uniquely composed. half life 1's soundtrack is liked by many people in the community for it's industrial instrumentals that fit the theme of certain set pieces. community always refers to the soundtrack as that of one of the best composed in the gaming industry. what they, however, don't understand, is that Kelly Bailey, a composer for Half-Life 1 hasn't actually made these soundtracks and beats himself and instead took it from other authors. the soundtrack of half life 1 and 2 is almost entirely built on samples composed by other composers, meaning he, as a composer is not as good as people claim. It is common that certain authors took samples for game soundtracks back in the day, it was, however, too frequent because back then they had no real professional composers.

Here is the original soundtrack for some of the music heard in Half-Life:

As you can see, the soundtrack for Half-Life is not entirely unique. That confirms a large portion of the community is misinformed when it comes to intricacies such as this one.

The samples sampled in the Half-Life soundtrack appear to all come from a series of CDs Kelly Bailey purchased copies of at some point in the past. The CDs contain sample libraries intended to be sampled in other music productions (for films, video games, etc.) The use of these is completely legal and is not stealing as you have claimed in the title of this discussion, as sample libraries are created for usage in other works in any way that various artists see fit. In the Half-Life soundtrack, the samples have been used to create new and unique tracks to create an atmospheric experience. Admittedly, there are some instances in which the sound is not changed much, and there appears to be a song in the Half-Life 2 soundtrack that seems to be essentially unchanged from the original sample, but the usage is still perfectly legal for reasons already stated before in this wall of text. Also, Valve hasn't been sued or anything from this (as far as i know) which I think is also pretty strong evidence that this stuff isn't stealing or whatever. Hope this helps clear things up for you :senpai:

"admittedly, there are some instances in which the sound is not changed much". so they are technically stolen. u should stop denying that, kelly did not change the soundtracks to a significant enough capacity where u cant distinct where the source of the soundtrack is coming from. that already raises an alarm, as the soundtracks he took from other authors were not his soundtracks and are basically "remixed" to sound slightly different. thats why u should stop bringing misinformation and make it look like as if its not stolen.

Always happy to meet a new fan. That said, I'm afraid I have no idea what "malding" is, another one to the gen z made up word pile.

As for this joker's eight bait topic, report and don't waste time talking to him. HL soundtrack having those samples is common knowledge for real fans of the game.

I think there's nothing wrong with sampling or taking inspiration from other people's music, both of these compositions are great in their own way. Also, ♥♥♥♥ these spam discussions.
