It's Valve's fault for even allowing such a stupidly low resolution in the first place when it's literally unplayable. It's even more mind-boggling why 320 x 200 is the default when you choose widescreen. There's no excuse for Valve not to fix it.
Don't act like this is the people's fault.
The intended audience wouldn't read it anyway because the sort of people that run into this particular issue aren't smart enough to do a simple Google search for the hundreds upon hundreds of threads that have been made about it already, and will then make an additional thread about it.
It's so bad that you could make a drinking game out of it. Take a shot for every time someone makes a new thread complaining about a blown-up menu in HL.
It sounds like a holdover from the retail version where installing HL fresh would set the lowest resolution available.
320x200 happens to be the native resolution of DOS and DOS programs, and since Half Life came out when 95 and 98 were still mainstream, I would expect it to be hardcoded in.
It's weird though because I don't get options lower than 480p[i.imgur.com]. I don't know how other people are getting it lower than that.
Edit: Nevermind, just checked and now the lowest resolution I have is 720 x 480? So does the 320 x 200 resolution ONLY appear when changing it from normal to widescreen for the first time? Did they like, TRY to remove it or something? I am very confused.
Also "The intended audience wouldn't read it anyway because the sort of people that run into this particular issue aren't smart enough to do a simple Google search"? If they pinned a thread with the title "IF YOUR MENU IS ZOOMED IN, HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT" you REALLY don't think people would click on it, especially considering they'd see it because they're already there to make a thread about it like you said? Listen, people on Steam discussions can be....not the brightest, but give them more credit then that.
Anyway, I don't want to sit here and argue,
tldr valve shouldve fixed it by now and dont be rude to people for having this issue and asking for help
(I configured the game in the properties section with "-w 1024")
Wait, are you still on a 1024 x 768 monitor in 2023? That's sick.
