Nope.
Nope.
There is no longjump in HL2.
/thread
You might not have to, but in my experience i found it much more reliable by releasing w before doing the crouch-jump. Also i'm only refering to Half Life 1.
Admittedly the maneuver isn't as fantastical as in HL1, it does exist.
I've spent some time on the jump I mentioned and have 4 methods for making it. The only way I can make the jump without Sprint/jump/crouch, is to stick a saw blade into the edge of the XP platform then sprint/jump to it.
I've seen another example of the jump in an HL2 video guide of Ravenholm, (player carries Dog's Ball) where the player does not pull the lever, (on the 2nd floor balcony) to activate the intermediate platform to reposition which allows one to make the jump to the fixed platform with the MKs and hanging corpse below. It is between the SG acquisition the tram ride to the church.
Even though the jump isn't as extreme as it was in HL1, the key to all the long jumps is the crouch.
Mac VTi I'll have to try releasing "W" to see if it extends my jumps any more than not.
