How to mod Half Life 1

Its been years since I modded the first half life. Can someone please show me the ropes again? All I want to do is use HD textures.

In the common/Half-Life make folder valve_addon and put all custom skins, models and etc. Ten play the game, video options, enable custom addon content

Be warned though, Valve recently messed up the game (again), and now having too much custom HD content might crash it, especially during explosions.

I actually just found out the cause after two months. It was a custom model called med-crategibs. So if you download a pack and you see it in the models folder, delete it, it will save you some time.

Wtf.... Using models or texture pack that get far from Goldsrc limitension only cause crash. But that can happen only in older non-steam buils. The steam version just will not play and will tell the problem in the console.
