Half-Life

Half-Life

*SPOILERS* Nihilanth is too hard, any tips?
Just made it to Nihilanth, and I keep dying non-stop. I shoot the crystals with the crossbow all while standing behind the spikes so the teleportation balls can't reach me, but one way or another those purple balls he sends out always kill me. What do I do?

EDIT: I finally managed to defeat him. Apparently always moving was the trick and once I got his head to open I flew up using the Jump Pad and used the Glueon Gun to kill him.
All in all, it was a pretty good game and I'll definitely be playing it in the future.

Shooty-shoot until ammo is dry as your mum. Also crystals are good to shooty-shoot, too, they glow.

What can I say? Dropping a modern-day gamer into an FPS from twenty years ago is the virtual equivalent of dropping a ten year old whose only experience with guns being Nerf into Vietnam.

So, you are ten I guess. It's not like the rules have changed, you aim the gun then shoot.

Some games are harder than others, and people struggle with them; I'm one of those people. I play most games on lower difficulties, and easy has become, well, easier since 1998.

Use god mode, save yourself the trouble talking about the difficulty constantly and the people from coming across them whenever they visit HL community topics. It's been like what, four topics counting your rant?

Hive-hand ammo also destroys his teleporter balls,
No need to stand behind the spikes.

After going through my post history, it's actually six topics. It's safe to admit that I may have gone just a bit overboard. Sorry, I just got a bit flustered. :/

Also, I don't like using console commands.

Your first "actually demands attention from the player" game should have been Doom, because Doom spearheaded the "don't stand still" philosophy.

I've played both Doom 2016 and 3/4 of Doom Eternal. I guess the reason I found this game so frustrating is the fact that there's no on-screen directions or hints; you're forced to solve things on your own.

And that's a good thing!

I kinda agree. Games that do this teach problem solving skills and situational awareness; which is, upon further though, something I lack to a degree.

That could be contributed to the fact that most AAA games nowadays hold your hand, and never let you experiment. It's way more satisfying to figure out the weakness of an enemy or boss, or solving an obtuse obstacle or puzzle on your own.
Agreed. I just bought Opposing Force, and I'll try to be on the lookout for clues this time.
gitgud scrub
haven't played this game in a long time, but from what I can remember, the underslung M203 Grenade Launcher on the M16 wrecks this dude fairly quickly
