Alien creatures teleported to Earth, not mutated fish.

It was hauled from the challenger deep, obviously!

Probably just teleported there or scientists captured it from Xen and brought it back to Black Mesa.

It left me with confusions when they said they brought it back themselves, as if it was already teleported into our world before the resonance cascade.

I'm surprised how an alien fish could survive in Earth water.

By the scientist dialogue, It definitely was before the resonance cascade, that's why they already had a shark cage and a crossbow with tranquilizers. Not sure why it wasn't in the "Questionable Ethics" lab with the others alien creatures that they have been studying.

They got teleported inside, just like rest of the alien creatures. And just as others said, no they are not mutated fish. Nobody is mutated aside from scientists and security officers from getting their heads caught by headcrabs and became zombies.

I'd assume they had another testing facility. Either that, or it was not meant to be a testing facility and they just happen to be there, so they used the cage in a different way instead of the original way (tbh, idk what they are meant to use in the original way).

Scientists were already studying the itchysaurus judging by the underwater lab in Opposing Force, if you consider it canon.

Wait, Xen was already being explored before the beginning of the game.

Play Blue Shift and Opposing Force to know more about it.

Half-Life, Opposing Force, and Decay had alien quarantine labs. The science team has been conducting studies on them with questionable ethics.

I know that those are "canon unless proven otherwise" but I'll take this with a grain of salt (or more).
