Should I use Widescreen or Normal in the video settings for the authentic intented Half-Life experience by the developers?

Lack of technology isn't the "intended way" and gimping image quality for the sake of false authenticity is senseless.

I agree, I'm asking about the Normal vs Widescreen because sometime using widescreen can be worse for older games, everything looks stretched unnaturally.
Half-Life 1 was updated to work perfectly on modern systems. there is no steching.

well when the game came out widescreen for monitors didn't really exist. so 4:3.
also don't forget to disable HD models if you want an authentic experience.

No strenching in Half-Life. Generally if the game gives you a widescreen option then it means it works propertly.

Different from older game, Valve kept updating their games. So Half-Life is very well updated for modern computers and has a proper native widescreen resolution support. Nothing get's streached of act different than what was intended.
Check the NEWS tab... the game got constant updates throughout the years.. last patch was Oct 2020.

There is no reason whatsoever to play in 4:3.

Unless you really want the authentic experience of that time, in which case you better max your resolution at 1024x768 then.. or even better. 800x600 because chances are, your PC wouldn't handle more than that in 1998...

So yeah.. max your resolution to 800x600, 4:3 and lock your fps to something around 20 to 25 fps.. there.. 1998 for you. Silly.
