Are Half-Life files protected by copyright?

Hi! I was wondering if distributing an app I wanna develop for HL would infringe copyrights. It would contain default Half-Life files such as models, sounds, etc (for the player to restore their files easily). I read the Half-Life SDK [github.com] but have no idea about this and Valve isn't answering my e-mail.

EDIT: I'm talking about a non-profit app.

Even Gunmen Chronicles, which is more or less abandonware, could still be risky to distribute.

its just like with the half life 2 beta stuff as long as you use it in a free thing then you are fine
but if its sold with money then valve will take that down

Nope, makes no difference if your giving it away for free or not its still software piracy.

A way around this is to provide your software and then make the users buy Half-life and copy the files over, this is how the half-life VR games get around this problem.
