Hows the story in quake? I always thought it was a mindless shooter like doom?
I tried both system shock games but they aged poorly.
I just started Undying and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that game is on par with HL on so many levels so far. Glad I found this
SH1 has aged horribly but SH2 still holds up pretty well.
Yeah Undying's pretty damn good, very underrated game.
Sys Shock 1 enhanced edition is good, the game is more like a point & click than a FPS. Check the remake of the first game then
I might check Undying
I have also played Unreal (the first one, not U. Tournament) however mapping is not as good as Quake or HL, but it is still very good. I also suggest you to play Carnivores 1999, not sure where you can download it from but it has the old vintage grahics we all love.
But how is the story? Level design? Is it just like collecting keycards to progress to the next level?
There is also something to be said for Duke Nukem 3D. It's older than half-life but has a cult following. Avoid Duke Nukem forever. That studio rode the investors like a pony ride.
Having played Quake, I lump it in with the mindless shooters like Doom 2 and Castle Wolfenstien. It's not bad, I just prefer more story meat.
I think Unreal and Unreal 2 should also be mentioned. Both are great games, with a moderate amount of story, and are usually cheap and playable since the unreal engine still runs on a lot of machines.
PS: and yes, Perfect Dark may be my #1 favorite Console FPS ever (yes, even more than Goldeneye 64)
