Can I skip Nihilanth?

I have been attempting to beat Nihilanth (the final boss) for over an hour. I have looked at multiple walkthroughs and nothing has worked.

I don't have enough ammo to destroy the crystals, and any time he opens his head I get sent into the green thing. On top of that, I can't jump high enough to shoot a rocket in its head anyway.

Would it be horrible to just skip Nihilanth?

( I would watch a recording of the final chapter (which I am pretty sure is just the G man anyway ))

And if I shouldn't skip it, do you have any tips?

Also, I feel I should add that I will try again one more time tomorrow even if people say to just skip it. (it's late at night)

Dodge the vortigaunts and perhaps not be in the water when they shock you.
Rocket launcher, and pistol shoot the crystals.
Use the jump pads to get up higher and to also land safely.
Get behind cover when the big green ball-o-fun shows up.
You don't really need to shoot the Nihilath, just the crystals and make sure he doesn't recharge.
That should be enough info, but you probably heard/read all this before.

Nihilanth teleports you to other areas of xen, Those areas have more ammo.
Dont want to teleport, shoot the green ball with the Hive hand, its projectiles are seen as different entities and will teleport instead of the player.
No other tips besides use the launch pads to get enough hight to shoot the things head.

While I have heard most of this before, it was helpful because I didn't realize you could shoot them with a pistol.

More effective with the revolver (zoom in) and the crossbow if you've got it.

the credits confused me because I am used to being sent to the main menu when it the credits are done.
