Half-Life

Half-Life

Problem with game display
Hopefully someone can help me with this: I changed the video settings in the game to having 1024x768 and checkmarked Widescreen and when I applied the changes the game "zoomed in" and fixed the window to the point where I can't change the setting back.

My monitor is 1366x768 and I'm running on Windows 10 if that helps. Thanks in advance if anyone can lend me a hand!

Create a desktop shortcut and right click. Go into the compatibility tab and check "disable high dpi scaling." See if that helps.

Otherwise, you may need to set a custom resolution in the config file.

Changing the compatibility didn't fix anything. Where can I find the config file to edit?

you find it in hl folder and there's the autoexec file and some other files kinda like it.

I think it will work but i'm not sure, right-click on the half life then click "properties" then
"set startup options" or something like this and then type in this: -full -w 1024 -h 600 -freq 60 or this: -windowed and you can even try -window. I hope it will help you. :)

Did you even look threw the past discussions . This has been asked a 1000 timea.

This is to help people who have off sized or black screen when starting the game.
This will allow you to see the games menu options to correct the problem.

Use the game launch options.
1 Click Library in Steam
2 Righr click the Half-Life game
3 Next select properties
4 Click the box "set launch options"
5 Then enter the command "-norm -windowed -w 800 -h 600" no quote marks
6 Click ok

---
Correct your screen resolution in game menu options
1 Start the Half-Life game
2 On the game menu page select option
3 Then click video tab at the top
4 Select the correct mode and resolution for your monitor
5 Click apply

Once you have the correct screen mode and resolution selected.
You will need/should remove the commands in the Half-Life launch options.

Good luck and happy gaming.
---
Note:
-w <width> - Forces the engine to start with resolution set to <width>.
-h <height> - Forces the engine to start with resolution set to <height>. This launch option does not need to be set in the presence of -w. The width value will determine the height automatically.

standard height size is determined by the screen mode -norm or -widescreem
----
P.S
Here are more "set launch options" commands that can be used for video.
-fullscreen : no framed window
-windowed : game will be in a framed window
-gl : open_gl graphics rendering
-software : CPU graphic rendering
-normal : monitor size 4:3 ratio
-wide : monitor size 16:9or10 ratio
+gl_vsync 0 : turns off verical Synch in open_gl rendering (can improve FPS)
-nofbo : this turns off some advance rendering in open_gl (can improve FPS)
-nomsaa : turns off AA ;Anti-Aliasing (can improve FPS)
-gl_aniso 0 : Removes anisotrophic filtering (can improve FPS)
-w 800 : width screen resolution size (other sizes can be used)
-h 600 : height screen resolution size (other sizes can be used)

Got it! Thanks a bunch! And you're right, I probably should have looked through discussions before posting a new thread, my bad. Nonetheless, I appreciate the help! :)

try software graphics rendering
try different resolution sizes

This use to be a problem. I do not know if it has been fixed.

Do not forget about "sizedown" and "sizeup" keyboard controls.
When you first install Half-Life the "sizeup" does not have a key bind for it.
bind "-" "sizedown"
bind "=" "sizeup"

Can be typed in the game console or put in the userconfig.cfg file.
