what is the world called zen
is it a strange planet with mad men or is it a place with the alens?

"Xen" is the Black Mesa given name for the dimension that all the aliens in HL1 come from. It's actually the borderworld, the void between dimensions, with all the species seen there having either migrated or fled there over the centuries.

The term "xen" is varient of "xeno", meaning strange, foreign or alien.

all you officially get is what half-life delivers

a xen-borderworld with alien lifeforms ( alien as in "unknown" )
a Freeman late to his job
a Freeman rushing his job because he is late
a Freeman butchering his job resulting in a "ressonance cascade"
a ressonance cascade that breaches time space to create unstable interdimensional portals

an upset nihilanth ( leader of Xen and dominant factor in the "hive-mind" that upholds this breach to seek revenge on "earth"

cue: enter the game "half-life"

and that's all there is really

if you want more backstory on the Xen-borderworld and the why of the invasion

i suggest the mod " point of view"

it's not official but i concider those type of mods ( the great ones ) jsut as cannon
sheds a whole new light on the vortigaunts :)
