Cry of Fear installation
I have been trying to install Cry o FEar's mod into half life, just to have a back up for personal reasons, but when I download it, it installs, and I can launch it. But the steam is smeared, and the text shows up like five times, and literally smears across the screen. How do you fix this? I have manually installed patches for 64 bit PCs to increase stability that I opened with a rar reader, and everything. Nothing is working. Is it because I own the steam version? Or what the hell is happening here? Anyone better with computers able to help? Because I want a back up title.

Sorry, but I don' t understand, can you explain the problem better?

If you are trying to install Cry Of Fear mod version in Half-Life steam version as I know it won' t work because of a past update made by Valve that has broke Half-Life mods: http://www.cry-of-fear.com/forum/index.php?topic=3220.0

If you want install Cry Of Fear into Half-Life non Steam version as a mod problably you could try with this: http://www.indiedb.com/games/cry-of-fear/downloads/cry-of-fear-10-original-installer

If you want to make a Cry Of Fear backup from standalone version I think you can just make a copy of Cry Of Fear standalone version folder.

Sorry for my eventual not very well english.

I had gotten Afraid of Monsters to work, but not cry of fear.

PC games were made for modding, people should stop trying to stop us from modding games.

As I said before, Valve has broke Half-Life mods for Half-Life steam version, 5 years ago, with an update to bring Half-Life also on Linux, so, if you want to insist to install Cry Of Fear as an Half-Life mod, I think you can install it on an Half-Life steam version that is before the update that has broke mods or on Half-Life non steam version.

Then, in the description of this video is written that mods such Cry Of Fear requires also source sdk 2006-2007 to work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnsuaYlQfbU

Damn, where can I find the old half life, or the SDK. Preferably a safe SDK mod. Or are you saying since I have Afraid of Monsters, I cannot re-mod half life?

Do you know where I can find Source 2006 or 7?

The oldest Half-Life version are easy to find also with just just YouTube.

The SDK can be download by "Tools" section of Steam.

Anyway, I don' t know how Half-Life oldest versions and SDK from Steam can work together.

I think the only way to get a working backup of Cry Of Fear that can be played also without Steam(if is this that interests you) is get some repack/steamrip of Cry Of Fear.

I found SDK last night, still cannot find a way to get Cry Of Fear working though. I do not know what the person in the video meant.

Yeah, the same person of the video said that his illustrated method doesn' t work with Cry Of Fear and also others mods that require SDK.

Been trying to fidle with SDK, no fixes yet. Still shows up smeared. May crack and non steam the mod when I can afford it.

As I said also before, for backup reasons, probably the only way to play Cry Of Fear without Steam is a cracked/repacked/steamrip version of Cry Of Fear, that I also saw on Internet but didn' t try yet, otherwise, is better use the standalone Steam version, that could have problably also more support.

Anyway, Cry Of Fear as Half-Life mod problably doesn' t have ways to work, otherwise, at least a tutorial on how to let it work could had already been made at this time.

With Steam removing games, I am just afraid they will remove Cry of Fear, I have 50 hours in that game, and it is one of my most played.

Oh ok, I understood, but for me is improbable that Steam will delete Cry Of Fear, as I know they removed only games by developers known for develop really low-quality games or for bad behavior against users and I think with this game won' t be the case lol.

Anyway, a backup of the game can be made also trough Steam right-clicking on game's title in "Library" section of Steam and selecting backup, but Steam is required to restore it: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8794-yphv-2033&l=english

Thank you, I put so much time into this game, got a lot of the outfits, and camera of death. 50 hours time played as well, and it just became my top played game over Fallout. It's a really good game to me, criminally underrated even.
