Digital Paintball Redux - Server Issue (Need Developer Help)
Hey everyone,

I'm working with the development team of a game Digital Paintball Redux and we have run into a problem that we can't seem to fix. We are using the server company Gameservers.com to host our server, but when we try to join the server that is set up in the game it gives us a Steam Validation Rejected error.
Half-Life and the older Digital Paintball both use the same appid of 70.
Digital Paintball Redux uses the appid 1066610.
Our Digital Paintball Redux steam_appid file is still set to 70 so we thought this was the issue, but Gameservers has told us that they tried this and it didn't work.

Gameservers are able to run the game, run the server, and connect to Steam, but we are unable to join the server without a Steam Validation error. I have tried to use HLDS to set up a dedicated server myself, but was having some issues with it getting it to update and be able to connect. (Idk if it's a port forwarding thing, but we weren't able to get my port open on my computer to do so)

The Gameserver company as emailed us back and said we were missing a file called steamclient.dll.

I'm curious if anyone knows what the steamclient.dll file does and also if anyone has had a problem with the Steam Validation Error and how they were able to work around it.

Thanks for your time.

Here is a link to the game to download for free if you guys want to check it out!
We're hoping to release it in about a week if we can get this problem fixed.

I've been in the Half-Life community for a while now and I've never seen this error. I'll try my best to help though.

Does HLDS work fine with DP? It might be because DPR has a different app ID.

Hey Dise, thanks for your response. So I'm thinking it might be the server company's error in giving us a wrong IP address. We're waiting to hear back.
Thanks again.

Thanks for your replay byteau,

We have figured out that we have all of the clien.dll files in place, and the correct appID was sent to Gameservers, so hopefully we will get some answers here soon. They aren't the fastest at replying back. I did notice the other day (why it took so long idk) but we have essentially two versions of DPB Redux made right now. The first one (old version) is available to download on the web, but the new version will be available for Steam. What I noticed the other day was that the server supplied us from Gameservers was using the exact same Server IP address to run a server for BOTH versions of the game. Since the new Redux uses a different appID they are esssentially running one server on two completely different games. Weird huh? I thought that maybe they were using the same IP address and different ports, but it turns out its the exact same server address. I figured this out because an online player lagged out in the OLD version server, and his name was lagged out on the NEW version server as well. Really strange. We've message the company and we're hoping to hear back from them soon.

Hope this may shed some light on future problems for everyone.
THanks.

Does anyone know of any server hosting companies to use for Half-Life? We have just found Gameservers.com, but are running into issues with them not being able to get their servers to work.
