Missed the crossbow

Is there a way to get the crossbow past the chapter "Surface Tension"? If not, will the game be much harder? Should I load an old game? I somehow missed the crossbow in previous acts.

I think so. As far as my knowledge states, you only find the crossbow once.

Ok, ty. Then I will probably load an older save. Hard choice, since I need to do "Surface Tension" again, which is quite hard and long.

There are at least two places you can get it after you lose everything at the end of Apprehension: Questionable Ethics, in the second 'tesla' lab, next to a dead guard(in one of those two 'closets' that are filled with headcrabs; the other has the first Snark pickup in the game), and in Surface Tension, hidden in one of the crates at the back of that huge armory.

Also perhaps amusingly, I believe the Surface Tension armory is the last place you can pick up the Glock/Beretta(should you not take it from the guard in Residue Processing), apart from dead security guards. Now that I think of it, the ST armory might be the only place in Half-Life(1) that you can find the 9mm pistol not next to a security guard body.
