What does Taunt / "Berserk" do?
I've been trying the taunt ability from knight class, it says it makes enemies "berserk" (I really wish this game provided descriptors for buffs and debuffs, it is too vague). 99% of the time an enemy I successfully taunt ignores my knight, even if I am right next to them.. what use is this skill?

The unit will only do physical attacks, and ignore skills/spells/items. They also may elect to attack their own allies, but that's not a guarantee.

There's a compendium in-game that lists all the status effects. I believe there's also a help button you can select for more info if you're looking at an ability that inflicts a debuff or grants a buff.

Berserk makes the unit pick a random unit closest to them and use a normal attack on their turn. This can even make the unit attack their own allies so it's quite strong.

You can pull up the help menu (Select button on controllers) and highlight a debuff icon to get a description, or hit the help button when viewing the description for an ability like Taunt and it will give you a description of the debuffs it causes. There's also a Help Compendium in game with even more information.

Its great to use on mages so they run in flailing with their crappy melee attacks instead of casting spells at your group.

But its not a taunt in the traditional mmo sense, so the name makes it confusing.

While I semi-see what you mean, it does say that the move [Taunt] causes Berserk status, not "taunt status" (like you said, akin to World of Warcraft or something).

there were alot of older games where taunt had different effects. It basically means "provoke", not "attack me", so yeah... inflicting berserk status, lowering defense and increasing str are pretty common effects of such abilities.
