Who's for a "Castlevania - Symphony of the Night REMASTER"?

For me "Castlevania - Symphony of the Night" aged like fine wine.

Imagine this:
✨ Content - Sega Saturn (It was never ported on PSP or PS3.)😭
✨ Features - Local-Coop & Randomizer (We need those.)😵
✨ QoL - Turbo mode & 100%-completion list (A must be.)😘

✨ Engine - Unreal Engine (2.5D, 32:9, HDR, Post-processing)😍
✨ Graphics - Just like in Bloodstained (Do not need to elaborate.)🧐
✨ Cinematics - Whole video remake (4K, 120 FPS, 32:9, HDR)😎

✨ Music - Remastered from Michiru Yamane herself (🤪🤪🤩🤪🤪)😛
✨ Sounds - Remastered sounds of effects (New sounds.)🤔
✨ Ambiance - Dynamic ambient-sounds in the stages. (Of course.)😁

✨ Fixing Bugs/Glitches. (Gameplay-wise / Performance-wise.)😛

The BEST result would be a Hybrid between:
(Where we can toggle graphics on demand like Diablo II - Resurrected.)
Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night & Castlevania - Harmony of Despair

Breaking IPs isn't a good thing. Look at star trek or star wars, nobody gives a ♥♥♥♥ about them anymore because of what they've done to them. They broke them and made them worthless.

If you want to play SotN, go play it. Don't "remaster" it to an inferior version of the game.

I'm guessing its a precursor of some sort; since it's not on Steam, a "remaster" might not actually be a good thing since it might just be too old for a new paintjob to be sufficient to bring it into the modern world.

Aside from that, if it's a good game, I'll consider getting it -- regardless of whether it's called "Castlevania - Symphony of the Night", "Bloodstained -- Ritual of the Night 2", "Bloodstained -- The Pre-Sequel" or "Dorothy and the magic castle". It's the game that matters, not the title.

Symphony of the night is the game that created the Metroidvania genre. It was done on the PS1 using 2d graphics and looks incredible to this day. It has been remade on just about every console, just not on PC. I would buy the crap out of it if Konami ever decided to release it on Steam.

Well we're speaking in generalities here. I can't say all remasters are bad, I haven't played them all. Maybe D2 is great, not great enough for people to give a ♥♥♥♥ for the most unlike the original, but maybe, who knows. What was changed? Do you know? I can speak in generalities or on the ones I have actual knowledge about. There are always exceptions. Duh.

It's not a contradiction, the difference between armor looking like plastic and a couple of FPS is massive. I may not even notice the FPS. And, yes, people that are super concerned with running the latest game on the highest graphics setting with 385409k ultra galactic doom resolution at over 9000 FPS are the exception. Most people are still okay with 60 FPS and 1920x1080.

And, ofc, they're judged differently. One is essentially a copy with some things changed intentionally or otherwise. What was changed? Why did it need to be changed? Only the changes are what is judged and compared against the original. And, most changes suck. Which is why most remasters suck. If they stopped at changing the resolution and FPS nobody would care, but they have to ♥♥♥♥ up a bunch of crap in the process, generally.

Well, you didn't snap back at me, which is to your credit. Sorry for all that, I don't know quite what was going on, I think I was having a bad couple of weeks, at that point. I usually only unload on someone like that when they're being really colossal ♥♥♥♥♥, not just disagreeable.

I do still contend that your view on it is stubbornly lopsided and absurdly extreme, though.

If practically every remaster or remake you've ever seen, heard, or played was bad, IE. worse than the original, you'd probably have a "stubbornly lopsided and absurdly extreme" view on it too, but that wouldn't mean you were wrong either.

This doesn't just go for games, but movies, art, and music as well.

That hasn't been my experience, except with music covers. And even then, it's far from an absolute. As for games, I've played many remasters, remakes, and re-releases that were, on the whole, as good as the original. Sometimes one thing's worse, but other things are better, and it all kind of balances out. And on the odd occasion, they're just objectively better. That doesn't happen very often, granted, but it does still happen, sometimes. Even these days.
