English voice acting and singing is cringy.
Dear christ are these voices atrocious. Pretend you were having a conversation with someone that spoke like this all the time. Enthralling. They have no personality. All it is is an "english accent" or what the perception of it would sound like. "Oh yes, look at me. I speak in a fine English accent." WELL ♥♥♥♥ YOU SURE CONVINCED ME with that glorious voice acting and casting.

The hidden English singing part really broke it for me. Just a squeaky awkward voice. The poor girl was trying. I remembered there is a Japanese voice option and tried it. The singing was infinitely better. A smooth, beautiful voice singing in another langauge.

Why did they put in effort to find an attractive voice in Japanese and not in English?

So why dont I turn Japanese voice acting on? How about why dont they put effort in and hire human beings that can articulate character and personality in the English langauge? That's a better question. Why is such ♥♥♥♥ voice acting and low standard acceptable?

Thank you for your time.

You people need ears if you think the English version of the fairy's song is on par with the Japanese one. I couldn't care less about the lyrics, it's a matter of doing the bare minimum job of hitting the notes you are supposed to and the English version' VA doesn't. I'm not blaming her, but it's clear she's not a singer and did not receive any kind of coaching or professional advice on how to sing. Ever.

I agree, the English singing isn't very good. But we're talking about one song in an optional easter egg that a lot of players won't even encounter, I don't think that should weigh very heavily in how people judge the overall voice acting quality.

In a weird way I actually found the bad singing kind of charming given the context, although I don't think that was intentional...

I found that Japanese VA for Miriam is inconsistent. Different actions sound like different persons.

"This VA speaking in a language I don't understand is so much better than the VA speaking in the language I do understand."

This always comes off as so ridiculous to me. If you don't speak a language, you can't judge the bloody voice acting. This is why people make fun of weebs.

The voices were mostly great, aside from that little girl. Carabosse singing is pretty good, too.

I guess kids these days don't even know what bad voice acting is. You must have missed out on the PS1 era.

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Coupling the fakest Cockney accent with peak levels of adult voicing a child was the worst idea. Nothing else really stands out as particularly offensive because of it. Dull, yes; offensive, no. I have to admit I wasn't really feeling it with Solid Zangetsu. Not bad, just... wrong.

But you never know, maybe the general lifelessness in the English voices is just from someone really wanting to emulate every aspect of Symphony of the Night.

Well one thing that IGA got right with this is the ending theme that plays during the credits just an simple piece with no lyrics just music and it fit the game perfectly unlike SOTN where the song just felt way out of place for a Castlevania game.

Yeah adults doing children's voice is a mixed bag sometimes it's very well done and other times it's done very poorly. Like with Maria in Rondo of Blood from the Dracula X Chronicles I felt the English voice of her was very well done.

The minor NPCs that hand out quests and such have pretty bad fake English accent voice acting, though I just mash through their dialog for the most part so I don't mind it much. The main characters have pretty solid VAs though, IMO.

Yeah I agree. The only NPC that was any good was Lindsay.

I found the English VAs to be very good. That being said, I started using the Japanese voices once Ifigured out that the VA for Myriam was the one who voiced Ryuko Matoi from Kill la Kill.

the issue with the song isn't anything to do with the singer, it sounds better in Japanese because it was written in Japanese. there's only so much that can be done to translate a song when the words have to fit the meaning AND the music. the voice acting is fine, not exactly triple A worthy, but pretty good for a crowdfunded title. it's a shame about the song, but song lyrics are up with jokes and puns in terms of being all but impossible/actually impossible to translate.
I disagree about the song. I did not here or read the words being sung in english. I only heard that voice box struggling. I can't comment on the translation because it doesnt matter. Translation is going to be as good as it can. The Japanese singer has a silky smooth voice.

I do agree about the quality of VA in context of the crowd funding. I can see the relationship of funding to quality.

I was just talking about this somewhere else, the singing in the English version was quite poor, while the Japanese version of the song was very sweet.

The Japanese singing is just as cringey as the english.

As for for the voice acting they're both quite competent. The english script however, is pretty watered down and generic, and much like Tekken, severely lacks any cultural nuance or context present in the japanese version.

typical weeaboo pointy elbow thread.
I just want to state I dont think I am a weaboo, if it comes across that way. I don't know what weaboo arguments are, but they might overlap.

Voice acting is important and difficult to achieve. I think the standards have never been high in video games, save for some. I feel it's a cost cutting opportunity for companies. Maybe good voice acting is very costly. Games are about gameplay first, and voice acting is not primary and is decent garbage on average. I am under the impression that people think Japanese VA is better overall because of this.

I just started to play SOTN from the Castlevania requiem collection and MY GOD the English VA is god awful. Maria Is the only character that does sound ok but the rest GOOD GRIEF. Alucard sounds like a complete wuss and the Master Librarian they totally messed up his lines like he doesn't say Farewell for now. His old man voice sounds terrible. Also Alucard doesn't even say I am interested in this. The VA in ROTN is one trillion times better than this garbage that Konami spewed out. Richter doesn't sound convincing enough during his opening speech to Dracula and Dracula doesn't sound evil enough and the same thing applies to Death. Very cringe worthy indeed.
d_valroth 2019 年 7 月 10 日 上午 11:53
Alucard is supposed to sound that way. He is very reserved and borderline neutral because he feels above the whole thing. The castle is just an obstacle between him and his father. Notice that the only times he actually emotes are when arguing with Dracula, and when the Succubus screws with his memories of his mother's death. In Japanese that sort of thing comes off as totally badass, but it's a mixed bag for American perception.

EDIT:
Actually, which VAs are in that version? Robbie's version of Alucard is way better than whomever they used for the XBOX port, IMO.

That's actually my prime issue with Miriam. They sort of went for it again, but unlike Alucard, nothing ever really gets to Miriam enough to get her to break her calm. She displays more casual emotion than he did, but for someone who makes such a point about still being human, she never really has a moment of human weakness. They made her such a strong character that she became a weak one.

The English VAs are passable. I'd have liked more effort, both in the performances, and in the design. The NPCs could have have more than one thing to say when you turn in quests. Susie in particular is bad in this regard as she doesn't even have unique dialogue for each quest like Lindsey does.

The fairy I thought was supposed to be bad. Maybe that wasn't the intent.

I think from my understand what ever VA's they used for the PSP version from the Dracula X Chronicles. Because I recognize the VA for Maria from the Dracula X chronicles version of the game especially Rondo of blood even though Maria sounds different because she is younger in Rondo of Blood but it is the same VA. I don't know but the PS1 versions of both Alucard, Dracula and the Master Librarian, and Death and now the Ferry Man sounded awesome imo.
