Deus Ex: Invisible War - WORKING on Windows 10 - a step-by-step guide
I'm posting below a step-by-step guide to getting this game as close as possible to being 100% playable. After searching for hours I managed to piece together information on various forums to get my version to work, so thought it would be helpful to put it all in one place so everyone can enjoy this brilliant game on PC and not be confined to play it on muddy old Xbox graphics.

1) Download and install the Steam version.

2) Run the application - it will crash and might even cause your computer to restart - all part of the plan.

3) Next, head over to https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Deus_Ex:_Invisible_War#Essential_improvements and download the Visible Upgrade: Unofficial patch for Deus Ex 2 and install it. It will create 2 desktop icons for you.

4) Then on the same page on PG Gaming Wiki, download dgVoodoo 2 and extract into the file called 'System' in the game files (just right-click on the desktop Icon titled 'Deus Ex with Visible Upgrade' and select 'Open File Location'.

5) Open dgVoodooCpl (you must run as administrator) in the game files and keep all settings as they are. Make sure 'keep window aspect ratio' and 'capture mouse' are ticked, then on the 'DirectX' tab make sure 'dgVoodoo Watermark' is unchecked. Hit OK.

6) Next, right click on the 'Deus Ex with Visible Upgrade' icon and hit 'Properties'. On the compatibility tab, select 'Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 95' and hit apply.

7) Now you're ready to launch the game...but not play it. Double-click on your icon and you should successfully get to the menu screen. Play around with the resolution in the graphics settings on the menu - I'm running mine on 1600x1200 (4:3). Now if you select new game, you should get the start cinematic to play, and then it'll crash on load. The game is completely unplayable still, because every load screen it will just crash. Keep reading for the fix.

8) The fix lies in Task Manager. Follow step by step. First, download a program called 'Process Lasso' https://bitsum.com/. Launch it.

9) Run 'Deus Ex with Visible Upgrade' and get to the menu screen. Then press 'control' + 'shift'+ 'esc' and task manager will launch. Close task manager.

10) Head over to your Process Lasso window and locate the Deus Ex application under the list of processes. It should be called 'DX2Main.exe'. Right-click on it. Select 'CPU Affinity' --> 'Always' --> and check CPU 0 and CPU 1.

11) Close Process Lasso and re-open Deus Ex. Quit the game.

12) Re-launch - and you should be good to go forever! You won't need to repeat every time, it will now always launch with those settings as long as Process Lasso is installed. Your desktop might appear occasionally during loading but only for a second or so before the game returns. Enjoy! Hope this works for everyone.

I'm putting the dgVoodooCpl into the game system files and it just disappears

The game runs fine on Win10 without any mods needed on my end. So I am not sure what is causing your crashing to begin with.

You talking to me? I've managed to get it to work now but I have been having issues with it for a year, it's pretty notorious for giving Windows 10 a hard time.

Can confirm. I downloaded this into an isolated VM and ran it through VirusTotal and a few other AV testers online, all came up as infected. Tested 2.7.2, 2.7.1 and 2.7.0... stopped bothering after that.

It could be that dgVoodooCpl is using virus like tactics to hook into the DX:IW exes, but I can't be bothered checking further, cause ♥♥♥♥ that, too much effort for an old as hell game.

I've followed every step but still hasn't worked for me ?

The above posts are complete bs, dgvoodoo2 is not a virus, but its a small program that cant pay av companies to get certified. It hooks to processes to emulate old gpu architecture, which is why they think its malware. Also it works for almost every old ddraw or d3d video game, not just dues ex, you will see it in a lot of guides for old games.

Just set CPU affinity to only ONE CPU through Task Manager
Literally all other "fixes" are utter ♥♥♥♥ and do nothing if you are having a "massive" CPU

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
