Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Stealth is a little random?
During the Liberty City section at the beginning, I figured out that if I was a certain distance away from enemies, they didn't see me (NSF should've improved their video settings) but a little later when I'm on a roof a little after breaking through a basement window, enemies from about the same distance away spot me with ease. I pop into sight for a second, action music starts playing and I'm being shot at with annoyingly precise accuracy. Stealth doesn't seem to be an option and there's way too many soldiers for me to take down with my guns. I tried getting down the ladder I used to get to the roof and... man, I thought Half-Life's ladders were bad. I'm at a total loss.

Don't stealth the cheaty way and abuse their AI, it's actually a lot harder than genuinely trying to sneak around because it's so spotty. Just stay in shadows, watch their movement patterns and stay behind them.

EDIT: Also leaning helps a LOT in the area you're in

But that's the problem, I can't sneak around them in that roof area I was talking about for reasons I already explained.

During the warehouse section, they see from further away, yes, it is unique for the entire game. (Except for snipers, they see far in general.)
That part is extremely difficult to sneak through if you are not really experienced, and even then, it can be a save-scumming fest. Trying to do that segment with a pacifist goal of not even letting anyone die from anything is a… it is a task.
It is easier to stay on ground level or going underground, but you'll have to know the passwords and the basement layout, as it is full of traps. Sneaking up from ground level is a lot easier.

Well what I did was, you know that first guy you come across who's closer than the rest? I managed to headshot him with the sniper, no one else seemed to notice, and I've been sneaking around apartments and those stairways you see on the sides of buildings. Before that, I took an elevator down into the basement and took some damage from some turrets, and that path took to me another part of the basement that I'd already been in. So I'm done with the basement. There's plenty of locked doors I could open down there, but I'd use up all of my lockpicker's... energy? I don't really know how/why the lockerpicker has a percentage meter. I get that it's an RPG, but give me a break, it's a lockpicker! Anyway, my main problem with sneaking in and out of apartments and such is that the game is extremely dark and I can't see anything. I'm currently looking into how to brighten it, but yeah, I need to make the game brighter if I'm gonna proceed.
They're snipers so they have better acquisition. You'll notice later enemies will too. Stealth is really easy on that bit. In fact, you don't even have to go by the rooftops. Going down is a far better approach for stealth, but even still the rooftops are pretty easy.
Also, what's the problem with ladders? They're not great, but all you do is look up to climb up, look down to climb down and move off to get off.

Stealth isn't random at all. You're just misunderstanding.

Look, I get that you think the game is perfect and will defend any little criticisms it gets with your life, but getting upset over me asking for help on a certain section isn't going to help anything.

Ladders take time to learn here, but essentially they are glued vertical walking panes. Once you realise you are just walking on a narrow plank and it happens to bring you up, it is easier to get ahold of them. You can actually exploit them pretty bad too, as the AI cannot climb ladders.

As for the basement of the warehouse, like many other buildings, it has more than one entrances. (Actually, it has three.)

I... what? It's a video game. You can criticize whatever the hell you want. I really don't think it's perfect whatsoever and you've misunderstood me for a fanboy, which I'm not. I can accept and acknowledge things wrong with what I like, however, the stealth is not one of those things and considering how much of an utter breeze this section of the game is for pure stealth, you're clearly misunderstanding the mechanics. Not my issue.

I'm hardly getting upset either, if you really think there was even a slight sign of me getting upset over what you said, you really need to reevaluate how much your opinion is actually worth, and you really need to get some thicker skin.

A little tip when you're trying to be stealthy near a walking patrol.

Don't move the mouse.

I know it's tempting to look around, but moving the mouse seems to count as "shifting your body around."

Thanks for the tip
Real great response there, mate. A little "sorry for misunderstanding your intent" would be nice, and most importantly, would validate that you do indeed actually have some balls.

What do you mean by this?
