PC Crashes and reboots when starting the game.
Just bought the game (probably should have played the free trial first but I usually don't have this issue with games), loaded it up and maybe got a little bit further than the "Unreal Engine" logo and some sounds before it literally black screened my PC and caused it to reboot (the reboot was a little slower than usual so it clearly wasn't happy about something). I've tried fully disabling my firewall, allowing the game to pass through etc. doesn't make a difference. Any help is appreciated :)

Here is my dxdiag: https://justpaste.it/24keg

If we can't come to a resolution, I might just have to ask for a refund which I really don't want to do as I haven't even had a chance to see the main menu of this game yet.

Kind Regards

Hi DemonHouseMaid,

Looking at your DxDiag file, WUDFHostProblem may be causing this problem - we were hoping that the windows update would fix it. Let's try the following:
  1. Press the Windows key + I to open the Windows settings
  2. Go to Network and Internet and select Airplane Mode (if visible)
  3. If Airplane Mode is visible from step 2, you'll find a list of all the communication cards on your system, toggle NFC off from the list of devices
Additionally:
  1. Press Windows Key + R then type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter
  2. Expand Portable devices and right-click on the device which you inserted and select Disable
  3. Close Device Manager and reboot your PC to save changes
  4. Retest the game
If this doesn't work, let's see if the file is corrupt.
  1. Click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator
  2. Type the following command, and then press Enter. It may take several minutes for the command operation to be completed.

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

  3. Now, repeat step 1 and at the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

    sfc /scannow

  4. Once the scan is complete, restart your PC and retest the game

Let us know if this helps,

Hi DemonHouseMaid,

Sorry to hear that the game is crashing and thank you for sending your system information.

It seems that your Windows is due an update, so this would be the first thing to do:

Click on the Windows Key, and then go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update

Please make sure that you reboot your system and retest the game.

Hi, still no luck. Crashes my computer upon starting of the game... it almost sounds like what a computer does if you hold down the power button, so it brutally shuts the computer down.

Kind Regards

what psu?

i noticed the game starts off with vsync disabled, but more importantly without a framerate limiter, so i see 4,000 fps right after the first logos

i'm going to assume your psu is old, low end, or underpowered for max load

try opening this file in a text editor: C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Local\HLL\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini

change or add the vsync setting so it says: bUseVSync=True

(you can alternatively cap the fps with tools like RTSS or certain gpu driver settings)

(EDIT: vega... that will spike power like crazy unless you undervolt)

Jeez mate, I have a RM1000i 1000W Corsair PSU that is fairly new. I will try your suggestion anyways however. :)

Nope, didn't work. The GPU recommended a 1000W power supply anyways so I can't say I'm surprised. Any other suggestions?

heh, what if it's too much for the building's wiring (or the outlet at least... even though it's supposed to handle a 1-1.5kw vacuum cleaner, but that's not spiky load)

could even be the mobo or the card itself

oh actually, some 'high end' psus have various protections that trigger during sudden spikes... cant remember a specific one i read a few months ago, pretty sure it was similar with high or sudden load triggering it

try 19.9.2 whql? disable radeon overlay+antilag+chill (though i used relive no problem, with its small text messaging overlay)

disable other overlays like xbox/afterburner/discord

try wattman power limit -50% (for fun)

rename the movies folder

I'm not sure where you live, but here in Australia a wall outlet can output 10A of current at 240V, so 2400W. The power supply is rated for 1000W max and my load on it even when playing heavy video games is not enough to kick the fan in (400W), the breaker would also trip if we drew more than 10A but it doesn't, everything else in my room remains functional. Reading the manual for the power supply reveals the following protection circuits, none of them seem viable enough to kick in under the given circumstances.

OVP (Over Voltage)
UVP (Under Voltage)
SCP (Short Circuit)
OTP (Over Temp)
OPP (Over Power)

The version of the card I have has a 345W max power consumption, how they obtain this number I'm not entirely sure but I'll put it here anyways. I think we really need to look at other avenues, it seems highly unlikely that this is a hardware related issue.

Hello CALL ME PAPA,

We are sorry to hear your having problems launching the game.

As J6ck has suggested above this seemed to fix the problem for the last person who had it.

Can you try doing these steps and if the problem continues let us know.
