JUST BOUGHT THIS GAME I KEEP GETTING AN ERROR SAYING THERE IS AN INSTANCE OF THE GAME ALREADY RUNNING , WHEN I CLEARLY DONT HAVE ANY OTHER INSTANCE OF THE GAME RUNNING, KIND OF IRRITATING I JUST SPEND 30 BUCKS AND DOESNT EVEN RUN...

Hi misogi,

Let's try to manually close the application that is running in the background:

1. Press the following keys at the same time: Ctrl Shift Esc. This will launch the Windows Task Manager.
   
2. Select the Processes tab.
   
3. Find and select the game's executable file in the list. You can obtain detailed information by expanding the Description column.
   
4. Right-click on the selected process.
   
5. Select "End Process".
   
6. If Windows asks you to confirm that you wish to quit this game, click the "End Process" button to confirm.

I got the same Porblem, and when i serche the Prozess i am only finde one Prozess, so if i cut it i shut down the game, so i can start it again and again and agin.

Sorry to hear that - we are unable to replicate the issue, are you able to play the game at all after closing it in the processes or are you completely unable to run it?

Misogi If you are new to steam be aware that you will have this issue with all the games you play on steam. Each time the solution is pretty much the same.

same problem occurs if your game crashes and you select send and restart. the game will not launch because it is already running requiring for the process to be closed in the task manager. but if you select send and close then start the game. then the game will launch without issue.

I also get this error, and it's easy anticheat that's giving it. If I start the PC, do my normal stuff in Chrome (emails etc) then launch HLL it'll consistently give this, There's no process to end and I've done the easy anti cheat "repair."

Okay so, no amount of turning off security software, repairing the game, reparing EasyAntiCheat, deleting EastAntiCheat, reinstalling the game etc worked. However in addition to @Team17_Assistance ' steps go to windows search > services > locate EastAntiCheat and right click restart. You'll now be able to launch the game.

I made a .bat file to automatically close the EasyAntiCheat service and HLL task.

DO NOT TRUST OR USE OR TOUCH .BAT FILES FROM UNTRUSTED SOURCES. THEY CAN DO VERY BAD THINGS.

It's perhaps just me, but the last update seems to have made the HLL process a little more clingy, so the .BAT file has been updated.

taskkill /IM HLL-Win64-Shipping.exe

has been changed to

taskkill /IM HLL-Win64-Shipping.exe /T /F

This means it doesn't just try to kill the HLL process, it will be forcible about it, and will also kill it's child processes. Sounds brutal? So is war.

Use the same link above to download the new version. Right click, edit, open with text or notepad to check the file, and again, never trust a .bat file.

Always check the content.

yea manually shutting it down is BS. there are 4 different gaming rigs here and it happens on all of them

I have worked out that I receive this message if I have the Unreal Editor 4 open at the same time as trying to launch, just closing that solves it for me.

This problem is not resolved still. How to resolve it dear Team17?

There is no HLL.. exe in the processed and reinstalling HLL and anti cheat did not help?

Do you have any game servers open for other games, such as Conan or Rust for example?
Please can you close all software except the game/Steam and see if the issue continues?

it's happening to me too. I just restart pc, open HLL and it gives me the "another instance of the game is already running". I've verified integrity of game files and it still happens, there has to be a fix. please get back to me. team17
