Bots mod suggestion
I would really love to see an offline mode with AI bots added to Hell Let Loose someday.

Sometimes I just want to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the game quietly, without depending on full servers or voice communication. The historical maps, immersion, sound design and overall tension in HLL are incredible, and being able to experience them offline with solid AI would make the game even better.

Good bots could allow players to:
- play tactical battles solo,
- enjoy historical maps at their own pace,
- train and experiment,
- and keep the game alive even outside peak online hours.

Hell Let Loose already has one of the best WW2 atmospheres ever made. An offline mode with realistic AI could make it truly legendary.

Solo play with decent bots would be great.

Even better - if the devs implemented it here, they would probabaly be easily able to implement it in the upcomming Hell Let Loose Vietnam too - and solo action in Vietnam war setting has been very scarce for a very long time.

interesting, ive made post like this in the past on here just to get barraged with elitist, but yeah i agree with everything op is saying
yeah bots would be great so no mics can stay out of the online servers
hmm, and how are you supposed to manage 49 bots on your side

predictable paths, tactics and spawn locations?

whats your role then? only commander? any other role would be senseless bc previously mentioned programming of the bots and your role as cog in the war machine without leader.

this wont work, no matter how much you like the setting.

the atmosphere is created by playing together in a command structured enviroment and adapt to the reality of the battle/enemy counters. bots cant do that.

this game wasnt created with bots in mind. the mechanics dont support any of that.

Given the state of the player base, it's probably not much of a difference.

perhaps XD

but the game shines when both sides have good strategies and a team that works together and can adapt to whats happening ;) cant see that with bots :/ all those coop and SP games get predictable after enough playtime.

the short correct answer is actualy... not on this engine! and not without recoding the game to be a SP.
at best a totaly new game that *steals* these maps, but i doubt that will happen or make any sense.

however, i had 2 full time matches this evening, means both sides where equal (y bad or good XD)
Yup and it can be as simple as having a command building back garrisons while each full squad has a support and anti-tank player at all times all using comms. When I done with this game I don't think I'll bother with Vietnam, it's just going to be the same players and game bugs.
Huh its a great idea i love playing omaha beach and utah beach offensive US modes but because winning is super hard as attackers i often play empty maps just to satisfy storming the beach

So all the defending bots would what, constantly miss or not be allowed to shoot at the attackers on the beach maps? Didnt think that one through, did ya.

And there is the issue. "Good bots" would mean you would need bots that come close to simulating the behaviour of 99 humans playing different roles. Good luck with that. Seeing how dumb AI is in most games, this would no be a very enjoyable experience. This is not some elitist gatekeeping on my part but simply being realistic.

As much as I like my singleplayer games, HLL is not one of them. It was simply never intended to be one (to my knowledge), so the ingame mechanics don't really support that idea. Plus with HLLV coming out I doubt there will be many major changes made to HLL anymore (yes I know it is supposedly 2 different teams working on them but HLLV is still the newer product and HLL already has its issues without introducing bots that many people do not even want or won't be happy with for a variety of reasons).

not what i was getting at but sure why not given how advanced bot AI has become these days

aehm ... what?

there are no AI bots!

these are simply preprogrammed behaviours - AI makes its own conclusions and reacts to that!
currently not possible in a gamesetting and with any current engine, let alone hardware!!
some (games) are better then others, but no game has (yet??) anything close to an AI in a game for NPC's.

just look how ridiculous performance tanking UE5 is when doing all the silly faking of resolution and performance (FPS). and you realy think developers should add anything that power hungry for 99 bots?

also already mentioned, HLL is made around communication and teamwork. this mechanic wont work for SP!
it would be possible to have ai make a mod for this game like deepseek, however im not sure this game even has proper mod support. Bots would keep this game alive however most of the community are elitist and want no part of it

The OP specifically said "offline" mode, given that it would be a single player experience I doubt anyone gives a crap either for or against the idea - if you wanna play offline against bots it has no effect on me.

The OP also mentioned:

- train and experiment,

Over the years there have been many calls for better tutorials and frankly a good tutorial would likely have bots in it - so I suspect most of the community would get behind better tutorials.

----

That said the Devs focus has been on Vietnam for some time now, so it's unlikely we will get:
Bots, Tutorials or better mod support.
AI is already a part of the development in all companies. and there is the problem with finding and fixing bugs. no one knows what BS AI has done and so they cant fix their own games anymore.

mod support? there are no *mods* for this game!
i doubt it would be a good idea.
earlier shooters have become more and more the same when modders add the same mechanics from other games and with that destroy the basic mechanics of a game - like fE the *healing/reviving* in Insurgency Source - the point of the game was to capture a certain location on the map to then trigger a respawn wave. healing denies this mechanic and makes the whole game irrelevant - just another silly fast 5 minute shooter!

no bot will *save* anything!! its an online MP game, people are supposed to play it together!
the OP asks for a SP offline mode with bots - that wont save the MP part of the game in any way.
and you wont learn much about maps either bc the whole battle is dynamic = changes all the time.
(sidenote: im from a generation who learned to read maps and didnt have navigation systems to tell them where they are and how to get somewhere, so... yeah reading a map is still a thing XD)

as previously mentioned, the games mechanics arent made for SP, and the tech requires online servers, bc half of the game isnt running on your hardware.
so there is no solution to simply make it offline SP other then - developing another game that looks like this but is not depending on online connection.

and now to the most unreal thing in the modern online communication and so called forums....
anyone who likes to play a certain game (fan? supporter? gamer? exhausted worker who wants to relax in the evening?) is bashed as elitist, payed chill or more insulting terms i wont repeat now.

but when your home team wins in a sports game, or your favorit musicians have a live show in your town, the same *fans*(fanatics) are praised and important supporters.

why doesnt this apply to a game that has people who like to play it and others that shouldnt care if they dont??
why is it nowadays common to bash everything into the ground, just bc someone doesnt like it?
go away if so, and leave the people to their own.

there are certainly alot of people who dont like what others do. and this is just a game - i wish people would be so engaging when it comes to real life issues - we would have probably a much better world then!!

but yeah, cellar kids = basement dwellers cant stand that some likes a certain game and loose all their cool, until the only point left is grammar, spelling (of a foreign language in a worldwide plattform) or something equaly weird and out of context.
