Team kills while tanking
Often when I gun in an armor squad I'll shell trenches or buildings where I've seen allies get shot from. Obviously I'm careful not to do damage to my team, but sometimes I'll catch someone who went down but never "gave up" which frustratingly counts as a team kill.

I caught an auto kick and later a temp ban for situations like this happening multiple times over the course of 4 or 5 matches in the same server. Do any longtime players have advice for avoiding this? If the answer really is "be more careful" I feel like I'm letting an enemy squad (and sometimes outpost) live just so a blueberry can take his time bleeding out in the trench.

The game automatically punishes for team kills. It's only the ones that vote yes after they are tked that count towards kick I believe. So if you tk you automatically get a +10 second respond time delay for every player killed and additional +10 second delays for each player that punishes you. So you can figure out how many punished you by looking at the teamkill stats and reverse the math. For example if I'm punished for +30 seconds and my stats say I tked two players, that means one of them punished me.

Don't tank then lmao
This is probably the only thread on HLL Steam discussions, about somebody being kicked from a server, that sounds reasonable.

It's just practice, but you can't avoid it at times. Sometimes you have to intentionally TK for the benefit of the game i.e. you see an enemy tank, you have to kill it but friendly infantry is close. You kill the tank regardless.

Best way to avoid a punish.
If you kill one of your ally accidentaly it's better to give them a kiss first otherwise it's very rude.
my favorite is when i run up to a tank under machine gun fire and manage to put a satchel on it and then yell into prox chat to stay back and send several messages in the text chat and yet people still run right up to the tank and get blown up and get angry about it.

don't sweat it for a few TKs if you're in the tank. it's bound to happen.
The best advice has pretty much been given already, but i'll reiterate it. If you do kill someone, send out a quick apology, nothing to long winded. ' sorry for tk, didn't see you there" usually will work 90% of the time. if someone is down and catches the splash damage, and you say sorry they will understand.
Outside of that, simply play more. As you rack up matches and get stuck into situations in a tank, you become a bit more discerning of how to handle it. Just like everything, Practice makes perfect. When it comes to the 10% that hit you with retaliation, not much can be done there. Just try to let it go and move on. Easier said than done, depending on the circumstances, but it is the best course of action
I dont even worry about it

Unless it is obvious that you are TKing on purpose, ♥♥♥♥ happens, it's a game.
Real life is worse and you dont respawn.

But do try to trade better than even for me.

I know some people ♥♥♥♥♥ up a storm, even when it is totally their fault they got TK'd
they probably need to get over themselves
