PC Crossplay

Why does the PC version have a crossplay option in the settings if there is no crossplay between consoles and PC? Does it mean crossplay between Steam and other platforms or something?

Just finished a game on PC and some dudes told me that there were Xbox players all over since the game recently went up on game pass.

Somebody please clear this up for me. Thanks.

it is all over this forum since last week.

people who have an x-box game pass or however they call it, are able to play HLL - ON PC !!

that is NOT the console version.

the controller symbol only marks them as gamepass user - not entirely sure why they even have to be identified ingame. but obviously there are strong feelings from some people, so that we need the option to lock them out.

I still dont know exactly what is happening. I have PS5, xbox S, and PC
As far as I can tell, the gamepass users are just PC owners who are running gamepass on their PC. So technically its not crossplay (consoles to pc) so much as it is cross app (steam to gamepasss)

I could be wrong. So please take my response at face value. Im still trying to find info on exactly who we are playing against.

You are operating under the correct set of assumptions. Pc players , steam or gamepass, play together. Console players are stuck in their respective ecosystems. I doubt there are plans to change this , but if there are , I feel horrible for the console players .

Similar to crossplay between xbox and ps users, this is just crossplay between steam and the Microsoft store (gamepass) users on PC

just as you already said, and you know it better since i dont have consoles. the ones with the gamepass on pc.

cross app is a good word, should be used more here to avoid this confusion XD

to my understanding it was never intended to cross play with other plattforms. i guess that wouldnt work well due to the different coding. although, x-box is supposed to be a pc in camo ;)
