Can you play without a headset?

Before anyone says I know this is a multiplayer game but I have tried games like this before and had alot of trouble when using a headset...... people getting abusive and it puts me right off. Is there a way to play this game without a headset? I love squad games but would just like to find a game where there are people that want to play genuine.

It is playable without a mic, but it is a teamwork game. You can send chat notifications for various things but it's fairly limited so for the rest you would have to type it and hope your teammates read it (many don't). There are a lot of players right now not using microphones, mostly from the Epic store, and I think it's making the games much worse.

Like all multiplayer games, there can be some abuse on the comms, but this game lets you mute those idiots. In general I would say most players are willing to instruct new players so it's not a dumpster fire in comms like other games. HLL lets you adjust the output levels too so if you find most of the abuse comes from proximity chat then you can turn it down independent of command and squad chat.

If you do jump into the game, you would do yourself and your fellow players a hand by watching a tutorial or two on Youtube since this game has a bit of a learning curve for new players and you'll be having fun quicker that way.

i would kick you out of my squad because you're not useful without a headset. can't speak for the game lately due to the influx of new players, but the community is pretty good in HLL. abuse is minimal and you can mute individual players for when you do get the one autistic screamer on your squad

People tell you it's a team game but you can do what you want. You can ping enemies to help your squad and just follow them around. I always mute the mic, inbound and outbound.
Who cares.

Technically playable, but you'll be viewed as a burden if you don't communicate and work as a team. Not doing those things is what would get you verbally abused in the first place.

sadly the elitist playerbase of this game will abuse and kick you whenever you don't do something 120% efficiently, instead of, you know, them doing it because they have so much experience (according to them)

Stupid and absolutely false - sounds like someone took an advanced role without knowing ♥♥♥♥ and griefed his own team xddd

HLL has a great mature community (if you dont count the free2play kids its mostly 30+ age - they can be toxic but thats only when you are griefing the whole team (doesnt matter if unknowingly or on purpose)

As long as you learn the roles before you play them you are 100% good, if you dont want to learn then just stick to rifle man and dont touch vehicles....

Yes. I play with the voicechat off myself, it's only 10% because I play solo I actually appreciate the communication the team usually gives and if anyone acts like a jackass you can mute them. 90% of the reason I mute people is that NOBODY levels their microphone properly, which is partially due to the game not giving you a way of knowing until someone says so. FFS turn your microphones DOWN people.

Nah man. New player here. Most are absolutely willing to help you out. But it's annoying when there's players without a mic ignoring all teamplay. Sometimes these even end up as officer on your squad.
