I cant invite friends to play Hell Let Loose with me in steam

When i try to invite a steam friend to play hell let loose, it only gives me the option to invite to watch the game. Why cant I invite them to play the game?

you sadly cant join a game together, but...

if you both have started the game and one is on a server (preferably with free space), the other can see that in the friends tab of the ingame browser and join from there.

just need to figure out with faction he is once ingame.
