How do I play sniper or get a scoped weapon?

I really like snipers or scoped weapons in this game. It seems like the sniper is locked to recon, and it is always taken. I have no chance in getting to use the sniper. Is there another way to get sniper? I am entirely new to this game, so don't really know a whole lot yet.

The best way to get it would be to play with a friend and both attempt to make a locked recon squad.

Yes it shows you are new if you think sniper is just for getting kills. Sniper rifle is just an asset in Recon team and that team has much more to do than just sniping.

it is not easy to get that role at all, but that has nothing to do with that ONE scoped rifle.

if you are realy new, id suggest to play some more as infantrie, learn about the games goal (no, not shooting stuff, that is only a tactic to archive the goal. just like real wars arent won by killing others), and the mechanics/tools ingame.

in that time you can make some friends or even join a clan that suits you, where you probably find another player who is willing to take the SL Recon role and invite you to be his sniper!

Ev-ry-bod-y wants to be a sniper! Just ask 'em! Let me try to illustrate the issue with an analogy. Seeking the sniper role in HLL is like being in the line outside the discount store on black Friday. It's 5am, there are 437 people in line and you're number 350. The guy in the number one spot is wearing track shoes and a jet pack. He has business grade broadband and he lives 6 blocks from the building containing the server array. Does this start to make things clearer? :) Do what I did. Grab an infantry rifle and work your way to level 10. By the time you get your hands on a sniper rife, you won't need a scope. :)

Just play as a squad leader with a rifle, you have a binocular that you can zero your aim with, basically sniper with an extra step.

You do not play sniper to kill people. Recon teams play the enemies backline, hunt garries, nodes, pin arty, etc. If you play sniper on the frontline for kills, you are not only worthless but deserved to be kicked for wasting such a limited and important role.

Because you're asking for a scope, which obviously means you want to kill people from a distance. I don't know a single good recon player who plays sniper for the gun, and not for the job.

I'm not trying to insult you though you may take it in such a way, I'm outlining how the role functions and why you shouldn't try to take sniper to get a scope because you are a new player and want some guidance. Don't be surprised if what I described happens if you do so.

You need to have a friend with you and you should join a server with a lower player count to have the best chance of trying this class. Remember that recon has 2 roles and only one of them gets a scoped weapon.

You already admitted you are new, so who cares about playstyle. Its all about communicating with your SL in your recon squad and doing objectives.

Before you do that: Learn the game, learn to use the iron sights.

Recon players unfamiliar with the game and map are at a disadvantage in terms of nodes(If they know what they are, where to find) and garrison placements(Ideal locations & scanning).

My computer loads fast so if someone makes a recon squad and it's not a 2-man, I could get in. I usually don't play the class, as it requires a good spotter to be even remotely useful. If you want to use it, get a friend.

Asking for a scope because sniper is my preferred weapon. Doesn't mean i am going to run around trying to quickscope. I know this isn't cod. I bought HLL because the simulation and vast strategic gameplay looked interesting. So yes i prefer a scope anyways, but that doesn't mean that i won't adapt to what expectations are set on that specific role.

You dont have a "playstyle". Either you play recon properly or not.
