I just tried it for the first time. It works for me, I had to install Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime in the steam tools library. Just go to your library and search for it.
Makes me wonder if this proton EAC runtime is just hard coded to always pass given the intrusive nature of anti-cheat and it not mixing well with the Linux model.
That was it. Someone on discord told me. Pretty happy how it runs
Awesome
- Re-Install
- Update Graphics Drivers
- Verify Game Files with and without deleting the Paks folder
- Using different Proton Versions and not using Proton at all
- Verifying and Re-Installing The Proton Easy Anti Cheat thingamabob
- Different DX Versions
- Various Graphics Settings like Community Anti-Aliasing and medium settings on top of switching from Windowed to Fullscreen
I dont understand wy its put to Silver on ProtonDB I can't get it to run smoothly no matter what
Crashes appear as I said from 4s up to 2 hours, but mostly within the first 10 minutes. Anyone still got any Ideas?
What's your specs?
I'm running Pop_OS.
NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super.
Running HLL with Proton Experimental.
Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS
GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER
AMD Ryzen 5 3600x 6 Core
As I stated, I tried everything from no Proton over experimental to 6.3-8
The Game is installed on the same drive (500GB SSD) as my OS

The only other thing I think could be missing is if the game uses Steam EasyAntiCheat Runtime downloaded from the steam library. If you're only crashing while in a server it could be that. I know that i needed to install that from the library to play Squad, I already had it installed when i started HLL so i don't know if it needs that or not. Might be worth a try.
1) Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.2 - i7-13700k, EVGA RTX 3090, 64GB RAM, 2TB NVMe drive, Nvidia driver 525, 3840x1600@144Hz 38" Gsync monitor
2) Set steam to use proton experimental (default)
3) Installed proton EAC runtime (search it in your library under "tools") <-- you can't play online without this
Every time I launch HLL I see something that looks like a TV test pattern, hitting any key fixes that and the game continues to launch, I'm not sure if that's normal or not. Another thing I noticed was the game didn't dip under 144Hz even though Vsync was disabled so I'm not sure if Gsync was really working.

The Main Problem I have is that the crashes happen at every possible time, including everything outside an actual match. EAC Client is installed, i verified and re-installed it multiple times as well, I am currently trying to install both EAC and HLL on my secondary drive (2TB HDD) and see if that helps like at all because I literally run out of options. Only remaining thing after that would be rolling back my drivers to 525, but I had that for the first couple of tries, and it crashed with that as well...
How about the current Nvidia driver?
try running nvidia-smi (nvidia system managment interface) command in the terminal to see what your current driver is.
I'm on Driver Version 545.29.06
Your driver version is 525, are you able to update to version 545? I'm on 545.29.06 and things run smooth.
For the TV test pattern I couldn't really explain what causes that, You may have luck asking people in a Linux forum what causes that and maybe their response could pin point the cause of your game crashing.
I just downgraded to 525, gives me the version "525.147.05", I was able to play about 30 minutes without the game crashing, and I stopped due to other reasons. If it fing works when I get back to it tomorrow, then I'm gonna scream a lot profanities
