Newbie chat

As a new player I want to ask what will be a stupid question to you experienced players. I want to chat and communicate with my squad/team but how do I know they can hear me as there is no symbol that comes on screen when I press C or V to chat indicating what chat status I'm in ,
Do I press say the C key while I talk then release it or does one press enable that chat throughout the game, same with the V key ?.
I know someone will say if they can hear you they will answer, but if they don't want to talk i cant tell .

You have to keep pressing while talking, your Name shows up in the lower left Corner either in Green (Squad-Chat) or Blue (Proximity-Chat). If that is not the Case, then there is something wrong with your VOIP...

There is a symbol that comes up when you use voice chat. It looks like three squiggly horizontal lines on the left side of your screen; green for squad chat, blue for proximity chat, and red for command chat (only for squad leaders and commander). If you then speak you will see your name next to the squiggly lines in the same color. You have to hold the button down. There is no option to enable it all the time.
