Get Rid Of Name Plate View Distance Entirely
Why do we have this feature and how is it remotely realistic? There should be a maximum distance of 25 meters for viewing a name plate and then you should not be able to see name plates past 25 meters. I think it makes the game far more immersive and realistic if we remove this feature. It also makes game play a little less fair because if you are someone who uses the nameplate feature to the maximum and you can draw out your team from 500 meters away, then it would be easy to spot an enemy since they won't have a nameplate visible. Now if you are someone like me that enjoys immersion and realism and doesn't want to see a bunch of ugly name plates from across the map, then I am certainly at a disadvantage. I think if it's going to be here, it is one standard option or it doesn't exist at all. Rant over. Thots?

Note: I am completely aware that the name plates can be adjusted and fully turned off. I am suggesting that the devs rework the current nameplate system and make it into a more refined feature than it is now. IMO, the only time a nameplate should be visible is when a person is pointed at.

What about the "over head" map? Not too realistic either, is it? Or that ability to 're deploy" as necessary? It is a game. Some things have to be utilized to make it playable.

I absolutely agree!

I agree partly. The nameplates/icons are a bit disruptive and they reveal easily enemy location (nameplates disappear when allies get shot). But still they have an important role in preventing teamkilling.

The best thing would be that they'd be visible only when aiming an ally.

you can turn them off or reduce the range that you see them. I used to play with them off and got myself kicked from a team dixx server after a few beers and over enthusiastic defence of a point. 6 tks later I got kicked and a perma ban from dixx number 1 server.
I now play with them turned on.

LMAO, that's a good story. Sucks you got perma'd man.
I've been in that position, but instead I put a tank HE shell into friendly infantry... yeah I had to take the blame for that lol...

Would be a much better overview if nameplates would only pop up as you point your gun at your team mates, so basically Squad style. And the icons should be smaller at distance and changed to a small transparent dot or diamond.

Surprisingly I don't TK as much as you'd think because I've learned what enemies from a distance looks like. It adds to the challenge. I think name plates should only be seen when hovered over manually.

They are visible when you are aiming at an ally. When you turn the nameplates all the way down to 0, they only show up when you aim at an ally. It takes a moment for it to pop up, but it does.

You can turn off nameplates in the options under gameplay. Removing them completely would be a bad idea. Some people find it useful so they turn them on. If you turn them off, it doesn't effect you at all.

As a Tank player, it's almost pivotal to use nameplates, cause you can't always see friendlies at a distance, the ones who might be hiding in buildings or trenches surrounded by enemies.

Am I wrong to suggest realistic features be implemented in a hardcore FPS? After all, isn't this what a discussion board is about? Would you be happy if we all just sat here and made suggestions that'll make this game feel more like CoD or Battlefield? I don't understand your comment.

I think its a matter of striking a balance between realism and fun. I always chuckle a bit at people who want "mil-sim" thinking its so realistic....it's not. Go get shot at in real life or even real military training operations and you will realize that video game and real life just will never be the same. It's a game that leans more toward realism than arcade and that seems fine to me.

It's already there! You can turn off nameplates! It's under the options, but you are ignoring the people telling you that.
Napo May 16, 2020 @ 5:36am
The absence of friendly icons worked just fine in red orchestra and rising storm, I don't see why it couldn't work here, you just had to watch your shots and both sides had different sprint animations that you could differenciate from afar. Also the UI is absolutely disgusting in HLL, with all those blue dots everywhere it's hard to feel immersed.

And yes the option to remove the nameplates is already here, but it should be a server option and not a client one, since it's giving a real advantage to those keeping it.
Digital Merc May 16, 2020 @ 5:58am
OP seems aware of the fact that the option is there; what they are asking for is that the name plates be the same for everyone... which is a really, really, REALLY bad idea.

I'm not personally opposed to it, but new players to the game have a hard enough time distinguishing friend from foe, and this would probably cause even more of those 'this game suckz!' posts from rage-qutting new players, who'd keep getting kicked/banned for TKs when they can't tell who's on their team... even with the icons on.

it being an option now is just fine... but I do wish the icons were line of sight...

its such a pain in the butt to have icons obscure your view and get you killed because they show up through 3 buildings and blocked your view of that enemy who killed you from that doorway/window. And don't even get me started on the horribad distorted nameplates on tank crews being a huge ugly 6mx6m block and obscuring your view if you're anywhere near them.

Details like this make me wonder how often the devs play their own game :D
