I quit trying to understand the logic of people anymore.
I earned the money to buy and play the game, I shouldn't need to "earn" anything else. Grinding to unlock weapons in a video game is COD-tier stuff. Even Insurgency Sandstorm, a game far closer to COD than this one, doesn't gate off equipment with level requirements.
If people are bad they're going to be bad, but that shouldn't mean everyone else has to suffer because the devs think we're all preschoolers who don't have functioning brains.
I get that since this is a pretty casual/simple game of this kind they'd want do make some sort of grind to get totally new people acclimated to the environment before they pick up more advanced kits. But for people who are experienced in this genre it's just frustrating. This game doesn't have the same depth of others like it, so its pointless to space out the grind as much as it is because even newbies will pick this game up pretty easy. If the unlocks started at level 3 like they do now and gave a new kit each level after without gaps in between, it would be more tolerable. Right now its just a time sink.
In competetive shooters this a no-no, but HLL ain't one.
I wish they'd add a progression system in Squad aswell.
I do really miss it there.
Unlocking just all the weapons really does not take that long, even without playing for points u propably have them all after a few couple dozen hours.
After that its just about braggin rights and overall account level.
And i like it:
Having something to show off after dumping hundreds upon hundreds of hours into the game just feels good and satisfying.
As i said i'd love other, similar games, like Squad to adapt and add a progression system aswell.
If not for unlocking weapons at least have a account level number.
I want others to see how dedicated i'm to the game and i do want to see other players level aswell.
Its also real helpfull to identify experienced players at a glance.
When i, as a squadlead, see i have very low level squad members i do play differently as if i would with couple lvl 100+'s.
Squad not having any progression or leveling system is one main reason why i dont have long term motivation for that game and it plays a big role why i prefer HLL.
btw:
Not a kid either, playing games since the 90's.
Money can't buy you everything.
oh my god you're such a boooooooomerrrrrrrrrrr
Do you have anything useful to offer, or are you going to only drop boomer-esque platitudes and larp as a member of the greatest generation?
I have to hard disagree here. I think the cosmetics are enough to show off time investment, like when you see an american with a greatcoat or the paratrooper gear, or a german with the smock you think "Oh damn, this guy's got some time in the game" and it doesn't have an effect on gameplay in a meaningful way, it just lets people who have put time in the game be rewarded by looking cooler than everyone else.
But when you see someone with an MP40, you just see a dude with an MP40. It doesn't do much to signal anything about the player's time investment, only that they are either an officer, and assault, or any of the other classes that have the MP40. It could be a balance thing with how dominant automatics are in HLL and they don't want too many people running around with those sorts of guns early, but the solution to that is to put stricter limits on what classes have access to automatics, not put them behind an artificial barrier.
I do think the progression system *kind of* works in HLL because it is less competitive/complex than games like Squad and overall it is easier to play, but I still don't think that means players should be gated off from using the gear they need to most effectively help their team, especially if they know what they are doing.
I personally do not want Squad to add any sort of progression system. I think elements like that could "casualize" the game in a way, much like HLL feels less competitive than others. If a game feels more casual, I think people will be less inclined to use stuff like voice comms to communicate or try to do teamwork things because they're treating the game more like a grind than a team-based game. At least that's my perspective; I only go engi just to slap down nodes for XP, not because I know they will help the team in any meaningful way. I think the progression system can incentivize people to play selfishly.
But I also have played more HLL than squad for reasons similar to you I think, but rather than preferring to play HLL I feel "obligated" to do it in order to level up my classes. Overall I think I enjoy Squad and PR more for the atmosphere of teamplay they foster.
Well i thought you were about the leveling system as a whole and not just weapon unlocks.
Wether or not weapon unlocks should be in the game is debateable.
But removing the progression leveling system entirely is a big NO.
Because people put in so much time and efford to level up and you can't just take their level away by now, some folks really worked hard.
And again: i do like the leveling and progression systems for reasons given above.
About the weapon unlocks: i do not really care...u unlock them so fast anyways.
Theres a whole lot to say here but imma keep it short and callyou a idiot who may enjoy playing some anime gacha game since they like level progression and grinding. Id also like if you stuck to HLL and kept away from good games like Squad.
