Phonetic Alphabet for squad call signs.
Why are all the squads for each faction given "Americanised" call signs..

Dog squad, should be Delta squad
Easy squad, should be Echo squad
George squad, of course should be Golf..
Etc etc.

For some who used the phonetic alphabet for years, and use it professionally in my day to day job.. its confusing as fuxk to have to remember what random name your squad has been given.

I kinda understand this being applied to the US forces, as Americans always feel the need to put their own spin on things, plus historically they named Company's like this.. but Germany and the Soviet Union.. nah.
Please make them the correct Phonetic terms.

I suspect the rationale behind that is the realism and accuracy of it, that's what they were to the men of that time.

The call signs we use today, those came later.

The irony is, most times you hear Bravo, and not Baker used in comms anyways.

You know as I sat here writing out the above post.
I couldn't for the life of me remember what "B" was. I knew it wasn't Bravo lol. But I would never of remember "Baker".

It took so long for me to get used to the Brit announcer in BF1.

"We are losing objective Butters."
"We have lost objective Apples."

Bro, charming.

As a lifelong American (lvl 0) we all use the NATO phonetic alphabet when ordering cheesburgers, and when I am SL (a lot) I almost always just default to NATO. The devs (from Austria I think, my education was bad due to constant school shootings) went ahead and used WW2 designations, which were often not even standard, at the time.

I personally would be totally cool with the German and Russian unit designations, let the devs know on whatever forum they still care about. I like foreign things they are mysterious

The purpose of phonetic lettering is to discern whatever single letters are that could sound similarly in a possibly garbled or loud war environment over radio or otherwise, doesn't REALLY matter when all of our mics are fairly high quality, but as long as the word starts with the letter that's intended, you're fine.
Pretty sure most people just use the NATO terms anyway. Never really seem to have a problem communicating with it myself, anyway.

I wonder how mentally challenged you need to be when someone calls out Alpha squad instead of Able you get confused? Probably a good number of folks who play this game used NATO phonetics, myself included, and yet can still figure things out just fine.

NATO vs WW2 Era USA or UK Phonetics NO big issue to me. Kind of a non-issue actually. Just my Opinion thou.

A simple google search would provide a history lesson.

Imagine a game, based in 1940's, using 1940's military lingo.

You're literally a person complaining about the way things were done in the past and expecting those things to change for you.

Need to work on your flux copacitor to do that my friend. In the meantime, enjoy the phonetic alphabet during WW2.

"I kinda understand this being applied to the US forces, as Americans always feel the need to put their own spin on things,"

ironically, you put your own spin on this.

nowadays, we use the nato phonetic alphabet.

if you knew your history, you'd know nato's phonetic alphabet wasnt a standard thing among the allies, especially considering the lack of nato's existence..

but yes, us darn 'muricans doing what we want (bc we can, honestly).

also, you can thank the united states for nato's phonetic alphabet. bc our icoa designed it. lmfao

It's good the way it is, thanks. Perhaps you'd like helicopters and night vision while you're at it.

This bothers me too because I have a private pilot license, I just continue to use the ICAO alphabet and people know what im talking about. I know it was that way at the time but it does scramble my brain a little. Not that big a deal tho.

no one honestly uses Baker, Dog, Item, unless they forgot the NATO version, like WTF is O? October? Octopus? its not a big deal, but yeah, it comes from the WW2 standard use, pre-NATO

Ive never said "Hey Delta Squad" and someone comes back with "Um, its Dog Squad you jack kass, remember, its WW2 dude..."
