Other thing, ability to chat directly to one particular squad leader. For example commander may have simple task for one squad, why bother everyone else? Same with SL to SL. That sort of solution is present in Squad and Post Scriptum and works quite well too.
I'm avoiding squad leading partially because of command chat being too busy sometimes, actually when it's not completely silent it can be so crowded that my brain overloads.
Sad thing is no matter what developers add, there always will be problem of multiple people speaking at once in a channel. There's also no way of getting proper comms hierarchy and culture in public servers.
I have a severe hearing issue and I can't clearly hear 90% of people in game without attempting to change sound settings each game depending on how loud my squad is, but theres always going to be inconsistencies with one guy being loud and the other being quiet so I'm always going to have issues hearing them.
Especially since I am pretty new in the game, I don't really intend to do squad lead but sometimes you just have to open a new squad and it's obvious how everybody attempts to avoid this because the potential squad leader foresees his cohesion with his own squad going out the window.
Yes, there are situations in real life, in which you are connected to 2 or even more tactical radio nets at the same time. Yet in these cases you work with callsigns, brevity and comms discipline. All this isn't really working in HLL. You can't seriously demand to be called with callsigns and process radio simplex traffic with a bunch of random squad members.
Also commanders and other squad leaders are often guys regarding themselves being entitled to talk all the time due to the importance of all the words that come up in their minds (no offense!).
It's pretty hard to effectively communicate inside a tank crew (where seconds can matter), when the commander and some other squad leaders have minutelong discussions...
I am surprised this hasn't been brought to attention of the devs so far. Or has it?
It's a bit like Kudlaty said, however, I would also like to add that no squadleader can speak openly in comms, only via channels and only the commander can speak openly.
There must be a better way to control these voice channels (volume, channel separation, SL/Squad muting, etc); currently, SLing is a terrible experience because of this issue alone.
I don't see why receiving Commander's orders are a matter of seconds. But my cohesion with my squad certainly is.
Right now, comms with my squad are impossible, when other squadleaders and the commander are drowning out everything else by their constant talking.
This annoyance put me off so much, I didn't even touch the game since starting the thread.
No point in trying to communicate with strangers that only want kills anyway.
