MG42 vs MG34
Is there any reason to take the 34? It seems to have a lower drum capacity (this could just be me but certainly feels so, has the ladder sight blocking vision...

So far is seems a little more accurate but the small ammo capacity and obstructive sight make the cons too much.

Would it be worth it to increase it's drum size at least?

It's just for cosmetic purpose. MG42 > MG34. But you don't really see the difference.

MG34 shoots a little slower and German tanks use the 34, so you can potentially trick the enemy into thinking you are a tank if you are shooting from a concealed position/far away. Otherwise, it's almost always better to use the 42. You are correct about the smaller ammo drum on the 34.

The 42 is a lot harder to get shots further away as its harder to control. It aslso seems to have more ammo

OP - I seem to keep switching out drums of ammo on the MG34 where as the MG42 seems to give longer bursts without reloading as often. The Longer bursts are more useful when the SHTF.

The MG34 has 10 reloads and the MG42 has 6, but the belts are longer for the MG42. Ammo count is the same, roughly.

I think the big difference is the muzzle climb for the MG42. It is best to fire either in 3-8 rd bursts depending what you're doing. For long range suppression 8 rounds then reset. If you're trying to keep the heads down in a building then 3-5 rounds. Ultimately, I think the MG42 is better if you pay attention to what you're doing.
