Statistiche:
Directional sound on Hell Let Loose...
I'm not one for wanting to hear footsteps in games as I am very much a casual player. However, when I play HLL I notice that when my team or anyone else for that matter is moving around me, the sound is all over the place. There seems to be no clear direction of sound and it confuses me while playing, and even when I see other players moving around me, the sounds are soo indirect. This sometimes seems to be the case with shooting... not all the time though which is odd. It's making my experience as a new HLL player very confusing and far from the immersive experience I feel it should be offering.

I'm not sure if this is a sound engine design/ fault with the game or my own setup as I'm still very new to HLL.

I have some Steelseries arctis wireless pros (check me out!!) with a performance preset EQ in SSE and I use dolby Atmos with the Gaming Performance mode ON. Bare in mind I only have this issue with this particular game.

Any help or advice for this ol' gamer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yeeeeah, sound design in general in this game isn't too great actually. one can only hope they get it right one day (audio occlusion is apparently in the pipeline to be released further down the road, which should improve things, so fingers crossed)
I don't have that issue, where the footsteps are, the enemy lies, or teammates. But honestly, most of the time there is so much gun fire, planes going over head, explosions going off that I can't hear footsteps, which is annoying when I know someone is there and I can just catch their movement between the brief episodes of silence.
I too find that the directional sound is a bit off sometimes.
They've completely reworked the sound system in this game at least two times and they still haven't nailed it.

Black matter seems to be a bunch of friends that modded games and then decided they could probably just make their own... And it's not exactly turning out well.
They should use Steam Audio, like in Escape from Tarkov. It's even got a UE4 plugin.
I don't have any issues on telling where footsteps are coming from usually. I can also tell what surface they are on as well, grass, mud, dirt or inside buildings.

I do however, have an issue telling where gunfire is coming from. The sound design on the gunfire does need tweaking, as well as Tank fire as well. It sounds like it's coming from my flanks sometimes, when it's actually in the front of me.

I'm using the Razer Kraken Pro headset, I've tried Turtle Beach, Steel Series and Corsair but didn't like em. The Razer has got some pretty amazing sound on it.
There stereo panning is pretty dumb to be honest. If the enemy is on the other side of a hedge and you are facing parallel to the bush in either direction, you can't tell what side the enemy is walking to. It all sounds like there is no panning at all and footsteps sound like they are coming from any direction.

This is with stock windows settings, all enhancements disabled and no sound virtualization. Just stereo

Found this, but its GPU accelerated, I was thinking something more dedicated

That's very interesting. I had no idea this was a thing! Am I right in saying this is only available for games using the unreal engine?

I'm kind of glad I'm not the only person experiencing odd sound with HLL. Perhaps this will be tweaked in due time with the new development team.

Exactly this. I have seen a teammate behind a low wall to my direct right moving about but his footsteps sound as if they are directly over my head to the left or behind.

its never affected me, but I can't hear footsteps or any sounds deep in a mix anyway due to being partially deaf. I can just about make out comms (if their mic is loud) and some gunfire, other than that its just a distorted low hissing mess to me.

Looks like I had Windows Sonic for Headphones turned off in the Spatial Sound tab of Properties (win10). Seems to make a difference, Now I can pinpoint where the sound is coming from with accuracy.

Note: do not turn that off

No good? It's literally the worst among the online fps games I ever played
I'm in the same boat. I have Razer Nari pro and Arctis 7 headpones. I also have very good hearing, but in this game i stand no chance of figuring out where shots are coming from. A person can whiff 5 shots on me and i still don't know where the shots are coming from. I know they don't want muzzle flash for realism but having terrible sound quality so that you can't guess the zip code where shots are coming from are also very unrealistic.
This is pretty much game breaking for me. So many amazing features in this game but such a core thing like this being bad, just makes me sad.
cool avatar op

As far as the sound is concerned you are spot on.

Sadly it seems to depend on which map and your location on that map as to if you can tell directional sounds.

Kursk and Stalingrad are the worst.

This has been my experience in the game.
