Omaha is Underwhelming
First, I know everybodies perception of D day now is saving pvt Ryan but to me personally this map feels underwhelming. When u get on the beach every time I don’t even have a bullet get fired at me until about halfway up the beach unlike how It actually was where they were getting shot at right as the ramps went down. It’s also just not that intense like it should be ie: you cant hear the machine guns you get no shots fired at you until your almost at the cap points. Also a lot of the times one squad will have pushed from the side of the map to almost where the machine gunners are and are just running around below them until the caps are captured. Also when I spawned as the Germans none of the players render in on the boats until like halfway up the beach (also I’m playing on max settings). So that’s just my take I would like to hear what you guys think do you agree with me? Or disagree I would like to hear your opinions.

I genuinely believe that the relatively simple solution of shrinking the opening beach cap to the width of one point would solve 80% of the problem, balancing or removing the armour on the beach would solve another 15% and the 5% icing on the cake would be some ambient artillery/sound effects.

The rest of the map plays pretty well, had some insanely desperate fights by Battery and Church Road.
That and get rid of all but the first 4 caps and the rest of the map which isn't the beach and add a no go zone so the attackers can't be farmed.

just add some bots in other boats that get blown up or killed on the way in. and make the boat ride longer

Boring as hell and a SP rail shooter that you can not compare to HLL.
HLL has to ensure some kind of "balance" it's a mp game...

I agree that the beach experience on Omaha should be improved with small tweaks. It should be more chaotic and harder for the allies to storm the beach. Some more bunkers and stationary MG's could add up for some pressure. But the more games I played the more the germans seem to understand how to defend. I'm experiencing a lot more draw situations as at the launch days. So people are getting used to the map. I'd say give this some time to see how it goes and then come back in a week or two and debate about some tweaks.

So I managed to finally have a round on Omaha where it was just like people are mentioning, where you can just run up the hill and cause chaos or build up supplies and do whatever then easily cap the objective.

I feel that the map needs to be slightly smaller where only the 1st 4 rows from the top that we are currently playing on are areas to move around. Otherwise the enemies will have too easy of a time moving behind the German team.

Medal of honor is a good model for how the battle should play out, germans already in positions, really hard to get up the beach alive.

That said, here are my suggestions:

1) less boats, but each boat with a full squad, its ridiculous having a boat with one or 2 men, ruins immersion.

2) ONE moveable cap on the beach, can be a particular bunker, or the draw, etc.

3) americans cant build garrisons until inland in the map

4) make the map more narrow on the beach, again, move the objections, and open different parts on different matches depending on objective layout, but leave the rest of the map wide after the beach.

5) add bots, some alive, taking cover on the beach, some in boats, add ambient artillery that will zero in on people if they move, add ambient sounds.

Right now the map is really underwhelming and although it looks perfect, it plays out badly.

If you want to play this map and better mechanics play Medal of Honour from 2001 that walks over this game and was made all those years ago.

LOL LOL LOL, seriously the beach section of that game has a narrow gauntlet towards two sentry points. 2001 you couldn't do anything like we have today with this. I've been gaming since -86 and you sir have a serious case of angry nostalgia.

I think its the "ambiance" people are talking about, yeah, looking back on it it was like you say, but it created an effect which made it feel cool.

It is very funny because ever time I have played as Americas, I have run to the capture point--"just layed down behind the cover and do nothing" and without firing a shot, you can capture the zone. :steamhappy:

I think a lot of it comes down to the inexperience of players not knowing that you can only cap points that dont have the locked icon on it, so there is no point sending guys to defend a point that is inaccessible, so I keep seeing a lot of the German team spawning at locations that have no meaning.

They truly need to make the omaha map smaller, cutting off 2 more of the rows from access, then we would have more consistent d-day style chaos.
This is aknowledge in the most recent dev log. They want to change that though no concrete changes are listed.
