Is HLL Historically Accurate? Authentic? or Asymmetrically Balanced? - "Hell, Lets Talk Episode 12"
A foundation of HLL marketing is history, but World War II history isn't balance and during the time period HLL is set-in. The HLT crew brings back our resident history buff JohnnyGunner to discuss if the current game his historically authentic (period appropriate), accurate period appropriate and used at that particular time and place, or strives for asymmetrical balance. Should Sherman76's and Tigers even be in Foy? At the end we provide some of our suggestions on how to find some balance while keeping true to the historical roots. (Hint: Moderation tools).

As normal we have all the HLL news that you may not have caught up on such as Stalingrad confirmed (?), Russian contact PTE announced, and Mosca's 1 year HLL Cartoon birthday.

The factions you pick from are historic. It ends there.

You make a good point. The presence of certain tanks are map dependent. There were Tigers at village Bocage, panthers during the battle of Caen, During this period even Jagd Panther V and VI were encountered. After Fulaise Gap, these kinds of luxuries had dried up considerably. I don't think the Sherman 76 was present until just before the sigfried line.

OP - Some of the maps were based off of Historical Photos. St. Mère-Église is an example of this. The car in the road next to the church is based off a historical photo. There not 100% accurate to give to a tourist or combat solider, but good enough for game play by far.

"Historically inspired" would be a better term.

not really.

if soldiers died as quick as they do in this game by being shot from 100 metres while concealed in grass the war would have been over in days.

Some additional info: If you do a web search on "st mere eglise ww2" via duckduckgo images. It provides many photos of the Town During WW2. Then consider the Graphic Modeling HLL did on this map. Simply Excellent.

Special Note: "The Church" from the external appearances has been Modeled in 3D in Exquisite Detail. *** First Rate Job, Well Done Graphic Design Team/Dev's ***

Correction, there were no Tigers facing US during Normandy campaign. 502th heavy which was present during Normandy faced Canadians and Brits only. Also 76mm were there but with extremely small numbers until OP market garden later. Tiger 2 was seen in Normandy but not with much action.

No 76mm Jumbos existed until February 1945. I believe all jumbos came out of the factory with a 75mm but field upgrades for the 76mm started taking place in February of 45 as I said. So really that version of the tank should not be present in game and the 75 version is cutting it with how late it was introduced and it’s incredibly small numbers. Hell, more Tiger 2’s were made than Jumbos.

But as said by other here, the devs no longer decided to have asymmetrical gameplay/balance. So after they listened to some bi tches complain about how the Germans have better armor or “ohhhh the Tiger is too op” they just put the Jumbo 75/76 into the game and now the armor balance has been completely screwed up ever since. Jumbos should never have been added. Poor developers
